M365

UEF’s digital working environment, Heimo, is technically a Microsoft Office365 environment customised for UEF. It contains different tools and applications, e.g. Teams, Yammer, and OneDrive. The use of o365 requires you to register as a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) user.  You are also allowed to install an Office pack on your home computer via the Office 365 service.

Other software

On this page you can find the software provided by the University of Eastern Finland and information for purchasing some of them.

The software on UEF computers is standardized and basic programs are preinstalled on the computer automatically. There are also many other software provided by the university. Many can be installed from the installation portal Software Center. If installation of a program is needed for more computers at the same time, the installation can be done by the UEF IT Services. There is a possibility to install some software to home computers within the contracts of the UEF.

Email

UEF e-mail must be used when using e-services and for information safety issues, it is recommended to be used in all issues related to your doctoral education. Read more about e-mail rules in Heimo (requires UEF login).

The email system used is Microsoft Office365 and its mailbox has 50 GB of space. An email account will be automatically created for you at the beginning of your employment relationship or when right to study begins. If you have an employment contract with the UEF, your email address will be in the format firstname.lastname@uef.fi.

IT services for research

UEF Digital Services  provides services for research together with library and CSC-IT Center for Science​. Services contain research time data management, opening and archiving the research data, services for scientific computing and support and training services.

Tools for studying

Moodle

Elearn Moodle and FinDocNet Moodle are online learning environment that are used in transferable skills courses provided by the UEF Doctoral School. The teacher in charge of the course will tell you where to find the course and what is the key required for the course. Instructions on using Moodle can be found in Kamu.

Tuudo

Tuudo is a mobile app, which you can use e.g. to register for courses, make room reservations, browse your study register, borrow books or digital material from the UEF Library (more information on the UEF Library’s website) and check menus of campus restaurants or schedules of public transport.
