UEF Register No. 960/00.00.02/2019.
27 May 2019
The Board of the University of Eastern Finland has adopted Study Regulations for the university in its meeting of 21 May 2019. According to the Study Regulations (Section 33), study attainments, including Bachelor’s and Master’s degree theses and theses for minor subject studies, are assessed on a scale of 0–5. When it is not appropriate to use the numerical grading scale, the study attainment may be graded pass or fail.
After the new Study Regulations enter into force on 1 August 2019, the grading scale used in the assessment of Master’s theses and theses for minor subject studies will change in certain units at the university.
This decision of the Academic Rector further specifies
the implementation of the change to the grading scale used in the assessment of Master’s theses and theses for minor subject studies referred to in the Study Regulations. With the change to the grading scale for theses, the official date of submitting the thesis for examination via e-services will determine which grading scale shall be used. Theses submitted for examination on or after 1 August 2019 shall be assessed using the new grading scale. For theses included in minor subject studies, the official date of submitting the thesis for examination is the date on which the student sends the thesis for examination to the appropriate official via email. If the unit has previously used a grading scale other than the scale of 0–5 or pass–fail and the student submits their thesis for examination before 1 August 2019, the thesis shall be assessed using the old grading scale.
