Are you a student who is a top athlete?

The Sports Academies are for you: you can fit sports and studying together on both the Kuopio and Joensuu campuses. An athlete who is already competing at the highest level or is purposefully training to reach the highest level can be accepted as a member of the Joensuu and Kuopio Sports Academies, if he or she already has a study place in any of the academy’s partner educational institutions.

New student! The Sports Academy participates in the Orientation Week in Joensuu and Kuopio:

5 September from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at the city’s booth in the Information Market

7 September from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Bulletin intended for athletes, part of the studies in the Sports Academy. It is well worth it to show up!

The Joensuu Sports Academy is a network supporting the combination of sports and study and forms a part of top-level sports activities coordinated by the Finnish Olympic Committee. The basic services of the Joensuu Sports Academy comprise sports coaching (for 13 sports), various support services (such as first-aid physiotherapy) and the coordination of sports academy studies (tot. 15 ECTS). Joensuu has excellent training facilities in the immediate vicinity of the university campus. The top sports at the Joensuu Sports Academy are biathlon, Finnish baseball and track and field.

In Joensuu, you can also gain ECTS credits for participating in the activities of the sports academy. This system, unique in Finland, is called sports academy studies and comprises the athlete’s own training and small tasks closely related to combining sports and studies. Familiarise yourself with the athlete’s path in the University of Eastern Finland

Sports academy studies can be completed on both the Joensuu and Kuopio campuses. Kuopio Region Academy of Sports is a network of athletes and coaches, educational institutions and municipalities, athletic clubs and
providers of various support and expert services, and forms a part of top-level sports activities coordinated by the Finnish Olympic Committee. The Sports Academy of the Kuopio Region is a nationally prominent top-level sports academy where a student athlete’s path is laid out taking into consideration the athlete’s individual development stages and circumstances in life.
