UEF’s digital working environment, Heimo, is technically a Microsoft Office365 environment customised for UEF. It contains different tools and applications, use of which requires you to register as a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) user. The software on UEF computers is standardized and basic programs are preinstalled on the computer automatically. There are also many other software that you can install in the Software Center portal. Virtual applications, which can be used from any UEF computer (and can be found under the folder App-V) do not require installation.
You are also allowed to install an Office pack on your home computer via the Office 365 service. You can also download Windows Virtual Desktop, which allows you to use software that otherwise can only be used on campus (e.g. Graphpad Prism, Matlab, Maple and your X-drive). For research use, you can also download software such as Atlas.ti, IBM SPSS Statistic 27, Amos 27 Windows, and SAS.
In addition, you can purchase software with reduced price (incl. Adobe, Autodesk, IBM, Matlab, Microsoft).

The email system used is Microsoft Office365 and its mailbox has 50 GB of space. An email account will be automatically created for you at the beginning of your employment relationship or when right to study begins. If you have an employment contract with the UEF, your email address will be in the format email@example.com. Students’ email addresses take the form firstname.lastname@example.org. The email accounts will be automatically closed 59 days after the end of the employment relationship or 179 days after the end of the study right.
UEF e-mail must be used when using e-services and for information safety issues, it is recommended to be used in all issues related to your doctoral education. Read more about e-mail rules in Heimo (requires UEF login).
Disk space for researchers
For saving and storing base or high protection level research data, IT-services provides disk space with backup (50 GB) and without backup (2 TB) as well as REDCap-data management services. You will get an access to those by registering as a UEF researcher in the e-Services.
Office and working utensils
The university organises an office space as well as a computer with its IT-supplies and peripherals, and a phone for the members of staff. The IT contact persons of the departments are responsible for ordering them. Some departments also offer similar utensils for the grant researchers.
