The Microsoft Office 365 service offered by the university includes e.g. e-mail, personal storage, co-working spaces, digital notebook, Office tools (also available for UEF students to download to their own mobile devices and computers) and a search center. New apps and tools are constantly added to the Office 365 environment. A list of tools is provided in the app launcher’s ‘All apps’ link.
At UEF, IT Services and Oppari offer support for using the following basic tools, but you may of course also use any of the tools included in the menu that you find useful independently. Look for training and guidance.
You can login to Office 365 from the link on top of the Kamu-page, called email. Straight link is: portal.office.com (new tab).

Office tools and installation
The Office 365 environment also includes familiar Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) that enable editing documents quickly on the web browser without having to install the complete Office suite on your computer. Files will be stored automatically and you can use, edit and share the newest version also when you are on the move.
As a student, if you have registered as present at the university, you can install Office on five terminals.
- Log in to the Office 365 service portal.office.com (new tab) with your UEF username and password.
- In the upper right corner, press “Install Office”
- After downloading, install it and login to the Office with firstname.lastname@example.org
All the UEF students and staff members are automatically provided with an email mailbox. Student email addresses look like email@example.com. Mailboxes reside in the Microsoft Office 365 environment and you sign in with firstname.lastname@example.org.
The service can be used with computers and mobile devices, either with an email application or a web browser.
UEF email address is the official channel for study related communication. All the internal messages through e.g. WebOodi, Moodle, UEF E-services will be sent to your UEF email address. Hence, you should primarily use the UEF email address for all the study related communication at the UEF. If you change adress to your private email, services will update UEF email back.
UEF email is not to be used for commercial or political purposes.
If desired, you may re-direct the UEF emails to another email address of your preference. NB! If you are also staff, re-directing email is prohibited.

UEF’s Yammer is a private social network through which you can stay in contact with other UEF people, share information between groups, and organise projects. Yammer groups are utilised by study communities but also during courses. Look recommendation on the use of Yammer at the University of Eastern Finland (new tab).

Your own, personal storage space (5 TB). You can share files with other UEF people, with edit rights or read-only rights. You can also share documents with persons outside the organisation.
Remember that you cannot save everything on the cloud, check the Information protection and processing instructions (new tab).
You can login to OneDrive on the O365 environment or install the OneDrive app to your mobile device or computer. Mobile device app can be found on the app store and to your computer the OneDrive installs at the same time as Office-package. As you login to the app in your computer, you can see the OneDrive files as the files on your computer.
You can use the files offline if you have downloaded the file to your computer for offline use. Notice that the changes in the file won't save to the cloud until you have an internet connection.
You can share files inside of UEF and to outsiders. Easiest way to share a file is to access it via browser, select the file or folder and choose Share. Choose who can access the file, can it be modified and add the people inside of UEF or the outside email addresses, write the possible message, and press send. Make sure you always share the files only to the people you were meant to share it!
You can restore your OneDrive up to 30 days. You can find the option on the top right settings -button -> Restore Onedrive. You can restore whole Onedrive and find lost files. Use it carefully, if you restore the situation 3 days ago, it will lose all the modification during that period.
If you want to restore a previous version of one file, you can press the three dots besides it and choose "Version history".
All the workspaces that you belong to are in SharePoint, and you can also see workspaces that are open to everyone. You can also create a workspace for a team if you need a place where you can organise content, data and news, and share these among the team.
OneNote is a digital notebook for making personal notes.
Delve is a discovery tool that can be used to find, for example, the contact details of UEF people and documents to which you have access rights, such as your own documents in OneDrive, documents shared with you, public documents related to the news published in Heimo, documents of SharePoint groups that you belong to, and service-related documents in Heimo.
