At the University of Eastern Finland, curricula are generally prepared for three academic years at a time. When a curriculum changes, transitional rules help you continue your studies smoothly.
Always check the transitional rules for your own subject – for example, in your study guide or your study community in Kamu. Transitional procedures are regulated at a general level in the university’s Education Regulations and in the Academic Rector’s instructions, but your faculty may have more specific instructions that apply to your degree programme.
How long can you complete studies under the old curriculum?
When a curriculum changes, you can generally complete ongoing studies under the old curriculum as follows:
- Basic studies: for one academic year
- Intermediate studies: for two academic years
- Advanced studies: for three academic years
- When your major subject or degree programme is discontinued: for seven years, if you have been admitted to complete both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree.
If your degree programme or subject is discontinued
If your degree programme is discontinued, the faculty will arrange for you to complete your studies. In this case, the normative duration set for the degree and the possibility of applying for an extension will be taken into account.
If you are studying a minor subject whose teaching is discontinued, the faculty will arrange for you to complete your studies within a reasonable time.
