Are you interested in making your studies more diverse, but going abroad for a semester or full year does not feel like the right option for you? As a UEF student, you can complete courses from partner universities during your studies without traveling!
You can participate in various virtual courses and complete studies in English through several different channels.
UniPID – virtual studies in sustainable development
UniPID is a network of Finnish universities that offers students multidisciplinary virtual courses and studies in sustainable development in English.
What can you study?
- Individual virtual courses on sustainable development themes
- A minor in sustainable development: Sustainability in Development (min. 25 ECTS)
UniPID virtual studies are open to all UEF students, including exchange students. Learn more about UniPID virtual studies (new tab).
Before enrolling: Discuss with your study programme coordinator to ensure that the courses can be included in your degree.
For doctoral researchers: UniPID also coordinates the DocNet network, which offers multidisciplinary virtual courses, scientific events, and information about research calls and funding opportunities. Joining the network is free of charge. More information is available on UniPID’s website (new tab).
Master’s Award competition: UniPID and the Finnish Society for Development Research arrange an annual competition recognising exceptional master’s theses in development studies, international development, or Global South research. A winning prize of €1,000 and honourable mentions are awarded. The competition is communicated on Viva Engage.
YUFE Alliance – virtual studies at European universities
UEF is a member of the YUFE Alliance, through which you can participate in Alliance activities on many levels:
- Virtual courses – online courses offered by YUFE partner universities on various topics.
- Language courses – the opportunity to study languages through YUFE universities.
- Open academy lectures – lectures on changing themes.
- Volunteering – participation in joint Alliance activities.
- Exchange studies – semester or academic year exchange at partner universities (with Erasmus+ funding).
YUFE is open to all degree students – there are no field-specific or degree-level restrictions.
Open YUFE study right
Completing virtual studies and language courses through YUFE requires the Open YUFE study right. The study right is valid for two years, during which you can freely participate in different Alliance activities. Obtaining the study right does not mandate participation – if your calendar is full, the option remains open for the duration of the study right.
