Conferences and seminars are an important part of your development as a researcher. They give you the opportunity to meet colleagues, learn about their research findings and present your own results as a poster or an oral presentation.
Find suitable conferences
Make use of the knowledge of your supervisors and colleagues when looking for suitable conferences. You can also find information about upcoming international conferences in the Pivot-RP database (link opens in new tab, UEF login required).
Check the background of any conference carefully. So-called predatory practices have also spread to conference organisation: predatory organisers market scientific events that do not actually exist.
Apply for a travel grant
Many foundations and funds, as well as some faculties and departments, award travel grants for conference attendance. Read more about travel grants in Kamu.
Prepare for your presentation
The Language Centre offers doctoral researchers the course English for Research Presentations, where you can practise giving presentations and develop other communication and interaction skills related to public speaking.
Use UEF templates
When presenting your research results at scientific conferences, use the UEF templates for posters and PowerPoint presentations.
Please note: All doctoral researchers must use the UEF logo in all their presentations.
Posters
In UEF Intra (link opens in new tab, requires UEF login) you can find:
- tips for creating posters
- poster templates in three different sizes
- instructions for ordering posters.
If you do not use the UEF poster template, download the UEF logo from the material bank (link opens in new tab).
PowerPoint presentations
You can find accessible PowerPoint templates (link opens in new tab) in UEF Intra.
