Moodle
Last modified: 30.04.2026
PrintMoodle is an online learning environment where you can find your course materials, assignments and discussion areas.
UEF has two Moodle environments:
- eLearn Moodle – for UEF credit-bearing courses
- DigiCampus.fi – a shared learning environment for Finnish universities, featuring MOOC courses and jointly delivered programmes. For additional guidance, visit the DC-help website.
Your course teacher will let you know which environment your course is in and provide the registration key.
Logging in
You log in to both environments using your UEF user account. For more information on your UEF account and how to activate it, see the IT Services page.
- Click UEF Login.
- You will be redirected to Microsoft 365 authentication.
- Enter your username as [email protected] and enter your password.
Instruction videos are available in the Panopto video service. You can enable English subtitles via the settings icon.
- Click Login with HAKA account.
- Select University of Eastern Finland from the list.
- You will be redirected to Microsoft 365 authentication.
- Enter your username as [email protected] and enter your password.
- After authentication, you will be directed back to DigiCampus Moodle.
You can also log in to DigiCampus using your Google account. Always use the same login method to avoid creating multiple profiles.
First Login
On your first login, you may be asked to complete your personal information. Moodle retrieves your name and email address automatically – you cannot change them yourself. If your details are missing or incorrect, contact:
- eLearn Moodle: [email protected]
- DigiCampus Moodle: [email protected]
Read and accept the User agreement – you cannot proceed without accepting it. After this, the Moodle dashboard opens and the learning environment is ready to use.
Joining a Course
Your dashboard shows the courses you are enrolled in. You can filter the view by ongoing, future or past courses, and star your favourites.
Your course teacher will provide the course link and registration key, for example through Peppi, by email or at the first meeting. You can join a course in three ways:
- Search in Moodle.
- Click Search courses in the top right corner.
- Type the course name and click the magnifying glass icon.
- Select the correct course and click Enrol me.
- Enter the enrolment key if prompted.
- Use a direct link from your teacher.
- Click the link your teacher has sent you.
- Log in to Moodle and enter the enrolment key.
- Register through Peppi (eLearn Moodle).
- Register for the course in Peppi.
- Wait for the teacher to accept your registration.
- Peppi will automatically add you to the course on eLearn Moodle.
Please note:
- Peppi can only add you to the course after you have logged in to eLearn Moodle at least once. If this is your first login, there may be a short delay.
- The course will only appear once the teacher has made it visible in Moodle. If the course has not yet started, it may still be hidden.
- If the course has already started and does not appear after a short delay, contact your course teacher.
You only need to enter the enrolment key once. After joining, you can find the course under My Courses.
If you are joining a course as another teacher, ask the teacher to add you and give you teacher rights.
SEB – Safe Exam Browser Exams
Some Moodle exams are delivered as closed SEB exams. You use your own computer, but access to other websites and materials is blocked during the exam. SEB exams are usually held under supervision in a lecture hall or classroom.
You can install the Safe Exam Browser on Windows and macOS devices. SEB does not work on Android, Chromebook, Linux or iPhone devices.

If SEB Does Not Work on Your Computer
You can borrow a laptop from a lending machine (4 hours per booking). The SEB browser is pre-installed. Chargers are not included – laptops are charged while in the lending machine.
Lending machine locations:
- Canthia, 2nd floor – Oppari
- Snellmania, 1st floor – Library
- Carelia, 1st floor – Service Desk (library)
