Tuition Fees
- EU and EEA citizens do not pay tuition fees at the University of Eastern Finland.
- Students from outside the EU/EEA studying for a full Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree are required to pay a tuition fee of 10 000€ per academic year.
- The tuition fee must be paid in full before you can register as a student at UEF.
- In some cases, students may receive a full or partial scholarship for the tuition fee. Scholarships apply only to degree-seeking students.
- Incoming exchange students do not pay tuition fees at UEF.

Living costs
All degree students at UEF are responsible for funding their own studies and living expenses. Finland has a relatively high cost of living, so you must ensure you have sufficient personal funds for your entire study period before arriving.
Estimated monthly expenses
- The Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) requires a minimum of 800€ per month to grant a student residence permit for non-EU/EEA students.
- UEF recommends budgeting a bit more, around 900-1000€ per month for the entire duration of your stay to comfortably cover essential living costs including food, accommodation and local transportation.
- In addition, you may need funds for the tuition fee (students from outside the EU/EEA are not covered by the Finnish social security system), health insurance, study materials or initial settlement costs like deposits and furniture.
Working during studies
Students should never rely on part-time work to finance studies or living costs.
- The student residence permit is intended for full-time studies.
- While the permit allows up to 30 hours of work per week, securing employment can be difficult.
- Income from part-time work is not guaranteed and may be insufficient to cover living expenses.
Supporting family members financially while studying in Finland is generally not realistic. If you plan to move to Finland with your family, your spouse may find it difficult to secure employment. Therefore, you must demonstrate sufficient funds to support all family members for the entire duration of your stay.

UEF does not provide financial aid or emergency funding for students who encounter financial difficulties during their studies. Careful financial planning before arrival will allow you to focus on your studies and enjoy your studies and student life here.
