Disclosure of information from the student register
The university discloses information from the student register (Peppi) in accordance with legislation. This page explains who information is disclosed to, how you can request disclosure of information, and how you can request that your information be restricted.
Who does the university disclose information to?
Public authorities and the university’s own units
The university discloses personal data as required by law to the following parties, among others:
- Statistics Finland
- Ministry of Education and Culture
- Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS)
- Kela (Social Insurance Institution of Finland)
- The university’s own units for the purposes of monitoring study progress and planning teaching
The Student Union may receive information on its own members.

How to request disclosure of information
If you need information from the student register for your research or thesis, follow these steps:
Restricting your information
If you have a non-disclosure for personal safety reasons issued by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (opens in a new tab), your information can be marked as restricted in the student register.
Please note: When your information is marked as restricted, teaching staff will also be unable to view your restricted details through the student register.

Legislation and background
The data content of the student register (Peppi) is based on legislation and decrees on universities and degrees, the decree on student unions, and the Degree Regulations of the University of Eastern Finland. The disclosure of data is governed by the EU General Data Protection Regulation and complementary national legislation, as well as the Act on the Openness of Government Activities.
