Digistartti is the University of Eastern Finland’s online orientation that introduces you to the university’s digital study environments and tools. Start by exploring at least the following:
KAMU – instructions for doctoral researchers
Peppi – information about your studies
Moodle – digital learning platform
Viva Engage – news and updates
Office space and equipment
If you are employed by the university, you will have access to office space, a computer, the necessary peripherals and a phone. Orders are placed through your unit’s contact person. Depending on the department, grant-funded researchers may also have access to the same equipment.
Researcher storage space
You can apply for personal researcher storage space (2 TB) by filling in the online form in UEF e-Services ((link opens in new tab, UEF login required).
Licences and software
Workstation software
UEF workstations come with a standard set of pre-installed software, which is automatically available to you when your workstation is delivered.
Additional software
In addition to the standard software, you can install additional software from the Software Center installation portal based on your needs. If you need software installed on multiple workstations, UEF Digital Services will handle the installation for you.
Software for your home computer
You can also install some software on your home computer under UEF’s licence agreements.
e-Services, where you can apply for access rights and your degree certificate, among other things
O365 web applications and OneDrive storage, which work on all devices wherever you have an internet connection
Mepco, where personal and employment details as well as grant-funded researcher contracts are stored.
You log in to the intranet with your UEF user account.
UEF CRIS (link opens in new tab, Current Research Information System) brings together information on the publications, expert tasks, research and education projects, and international visits of the university’s researchers.
Report all your academic publications to the library in UEF CRIS as soon as they are published. When reporting a publication, you can also request it to be self-archived in UEF’s publication repository, eRepository (link opens in new tab, eRepo).
Other publications, projects, expert tasks and international visits are also recorded in the CRIS database.
UEF Connect (link opens in new tab) is a search service that helps you increase the visibility of your research. You can include your profile link in funding applications, for example.
Your profile is created automatically when you are employed by the university or have signed a grant-funded researcher contract in Mepco. The following details are added to your profile automatically:
your name and title
your contact details from Mepco
your academic publications from the UEF CRIS database
In addition, you can add the following to your profile yourself:
your CV
descriptions of your work and ongoing research projects
information about your teaching or societal engagement tasks
links to your social media channels
If your profile has not been created automatically, ask your department for staff-equivalent access rights.
