Getting started with your studies
Last modified: 05.08.2026
PrintWelcome as an Open University student!
Here’s how you start your studies:
- Activate your UEF user account or change the password of your existing account.
- Set up your university student email and explore the Digistart guide.
- Log in to the online learning environment for your studies using the dropdown menus on this page.
You use your UEF user account to log in to all university digital services, such as your student email, online learning environments, the Peppi student and study information system, and library services.
You can activate your account the day after you receive the message confirming that your study right has been created. Your UEF access rights begin on the start date of your study right (from 1 August for the autumn semester and from 1 January for the spring semester).
Activate your account using Suomi.fi e-Identification. You can find detailed instructions on the UEF Digital Services page (opens in a new tab).
As an Open University student, you have access to the Microsoft 365 Copilot service, which includes email. All study-related communication is sent via your UEF email, so check your email regularly.
- Your email address is in the format [email protected].
- You log in to the Microsoft 365 Copilot service and your email using your credentials in the format [email protected].
When you log in to the Microsoft 365 Copilot service for the first time, the service will guide you through setting up multi-factor authentication (MFA).
Also explore the Digistart guide – it introduces you to the university’s digital services and helps you get off to a smooth start with your studies.
Do you have multiple Microsoft 365 accounts? Login credentials from another account (e.g. your workplace or another educational institution) stored in your browser cache may prevent you from logging in. If this happens, try using a different browser or open a browser window in InPrivate/Incognito/Private mode.
You can find links to the online learning environments and login instructions in the dropdown menus below, organised by academic subject. Log in to the online learning environment as soon as your UEF account is active. The subject-specific online environments contain information about individual courses.
Unable to log in to Moodle after changing your password? Your account has most likely been locked due to a long period of inactivity. Request that the lock be removed by contacting [email protected] or [email protected].
If you have any other questions, contact the Open University – see contact details.
