Legal basis
Individual study arrangements are based on the Finnish Non-Discrimination Act (1325/2014):
- Education providers must take the necessary measures to promote the realisation of equality (Section 6).
- Education providers must make due and appropriate adjustments necessary in each situation for a person with disabilities to be able to gain access to education (Section 15).
- When assessing the reasonableness of the adjustments, attention shall also be devoted, in addition to the needs of the person with disabilities, to the size, financial position, nature and extent of the operations, as well as the estimated costs of the adjustments and the support available for the adjustments.
The UEF guidelines on individual study arrangements are based on the Decision of the Academic Rector (No. 16/2023), effective from 1 August 2023.
