Through the Erasmus+ programme, you can participate in short blended intensive courses (Blended Intensive Programmes, BIP) in Europe. BIP courses are individual courses organised by partner universities, consisting of a virtual component and a physical mobility period. You can apply for courses throughout the academic year.
For information on short blended traineeships, visit the Erasmus+ traineeship page.
BIP course requirements
To be eligible for an Erasmus+ BIP grant, all of the following criteria must be met:
- The organising university must be one of UEF’s Erasmus+ partner universities. List of partner universities.
- The course must include both a virtual and a physical component – there must be online study before or after the physical mobility period. Exception: the virtual component is not required for doctoral students.
- The physical mobility period lasts 5–30 days.
- The combined workload of the virtual and physical components is at least 3 ECTS.
- Tuition must be free of charge – no tuition, registration, examination, laboratory or library fees may be charged. Fees for optional social programmes are permitted.
- You must not have a valid employment contract at UEF during the course. If you have an employment contract (e.g. junior researcher, paid traineeship), contact International Mobility Services ([email protected]) before applying.
- You must be registered as a present degree student at UEF throughout the BIP course. You cannot graduate before or during the course, and the credits must be included in your UEF degree.
- Non-EU/EEA students: Before applying, discuss with your study programme coordinator whether a BIP course could extend your studies and/or affect your tuition fees at UEF.
How many times can I receive the grant?
- General rule: The grant is awarded once per degree level (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral).
- Students with fewer opportunities: If you belong to a group with fewer opportunities to participate in long-term exchanges (e.g. students with families, working students), you may apply for the grant more than once per degree level, but no more than once per semester. Read more about fewer opportunities.
- Doctoral students without an employment contract at UEF: The grant may be awarded on the recommendation of your supervisor. Attach the recommendation letter to your SoleMOVE application.
Spring 2026 exception (updated 13 February 2026): During the spring semester 2026, you may apply for an Erasmus+ BIP grant a second time if your study programme or department supports your participation. Attach a free-form recommendation from, for example, your programme coordinator, amanuensis, education specialist or PSP advisor. More information: [email protected].
How to apply for a BIP course and grant
Grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis: you can start the process as soon as you find a suitable course. The application period is open annually from 1 June to 31 May.
Apply for the grant at least one month before the start of the physical mobility period. Applications submitted less than one month before the physical mobility period cannot be processed and grants cannot be awarded. Grants cannot be applied for or paid retroactively.
Step by step
- Find a suitable BIP course. You can search for courses on:
- the websites of UEF’s Erasmus+ partner universities

- the table at the bottom of this page
- Make sure the course meets all requirements (see above).

Funding
Grant amount
The Erasmus+ grant is paid for the physical mobility period of the course (5–30 days)
| Days of the period | Grant per day |
|---|---|
| Days 1-14 | 79 € |
| Days 15-30 | 56 € |
In addition, you will receive travel support, and 2 grant-eligible travel days are added to the duration of the mobility.
Green travel top-up
If you travel to and from the destination using low-emission transport (bus, train, carpooling), you may be eligible for an increased travel grant and up to 6 grant-eligible travel days. Green travel means that most of the journey, or at least one direction, is completed by low-emission means.
Note that ferry or ship travel is not considered green travel in the Erasmus+ programme.
Top-up for students with fewer opportunities
If you belong to a group with fewer opportunities to participate in mobility (e.g. students with families, carers, students with disabilities, students with an immigrant background, or students with specific needs arising from physical or mental health conditions), you may apply for additional support.
More details about top-ups and travel support amounts are available in the “Funding your studies abroad” section.
12 months per degree level
In the Erasmus+ programme, the total duration of study and traineeship periods cannot exceed 12 months per degree level (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral). Once the 12-month limit has been reached, you cannot participate in further Erasmus+ mobility at that degree level.
Note that:
- The 12-month limit includes months used at the same degree level during previous studies and time as an Erasmus Mundus grant recipient.
- You must have sufficient months remaining when you begin a mobility period – the limit cannot be exceeded during the period.
Digital Learning Agreement
Complete the Digital Learning Agreement (DLA) before the start of the short-term exchange. The digital LA is completed via SoleMOVE. You will receive the instructions on how to complete the DLA from International Mobility Services.
UEF’s Erasmus code: SF KUOPIO12.

UEF policy on Erasmus+ funding for short-term mobility
From 1 August 2024, the following priorities apply to Erasmus+ funding for short-term mobility:
Priority is given to:
- Bachelor’s and master’s students with fewer opportunities to participate in long-term exchanges (special groups, e.g. students with families, working students).
- BIP courses where UEF is one of the organising universities.
In addition:
- Doctoral students (without an employment contract at UEF) may receive the grant on the recommendation of their supervisor.
- The grant is awarded once per degree level as a general rule, excluding bachelor’s and master’s students in the special groups category.
