The university encourages all students to seek out traineeships and particularly supports students from minority backgrounds or with an immigrant background. You can receive individual support at every stage of the traineeship – from planning through to completion.
If you need individual arrangements, agree on them with the employer before the traineeship begins. It is also a good idea to familiarise yourself with the workplace in advance and make sure you know who to turn to if questions or challenges arise during practical training. You can give feedback after the traineeship, for example as part of your traineeship report or portfolio.
How to take accessibility into account in your traineeship:
- Physical and digital accessibility – pay attention to the physical accessibility of the workplace as well as the accessibility of digital tools.
- Individual arrangements – you have the right to apply for individual study arrangements, which can also apply to your traineeship (flexible working hours, assistive devices, task adjustments, workspace adaptations).
- Orientation and inclusivity – as an intern, you should receive proper orientation to the organisationäs working practisces as well as guidance on how act in possible problem situations. You should feel that you are a valued part of the work community, just like the other memebers of working place.
- Feedback- Your first job in your own field can be an exciting experience, and mistakes may happen. When the workplace has a positive and open atmosphere, mistakes do not need to be hidden; instead, they can be addressed openly and constructively. As an intern, it is helpful for you to receive direct, honest feedback and in the right time. The purpose of feedback is to help you improve your performance or act correctly in the future.
