Support for difficult situations in doctoral education
Last modified: 05.05.2026
PrintAs a doctoral researcher, you are supported by an extensive network that includes your doctoral programme (supervisors, doctoral programme coordinator and director), the head of your unit, HR and occupational health services or public healthcare.
Conflict situations
Conflict situations include, for example, problems in interpersonal relationships, issues related to work tasks and arrangements, problems related to supervision, or other disputes. The aim is to resolve conflicts primarily through an informal, low-threshold approach. If the conflict cannot be resolved through informal discussion, the matter will be referred to the head of department or the dean.
The following people in the faculties can help you resolve conflict situations:
- Philosophical Faculty: Heidi Hyytiäinen (link opens in new tab)
- Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology: Maarit Merimaa-Piirainen (link opens in new tab)

Violations of good research practices
Violations of good research practices include research misconduct (fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism) as well as disregard for good research practices (for example, underplaying the contribution of other researchers in publications and other manipulation of authorship, self-plagiarism, or careless and misleading reporting).
Read about the good research practices in UEF intra (link opens in new tab, requires UEF login). If you need support in a process concerning a suspected violation of responsible conduct of research, you can also find information about research integrity advisers in UEF intra (link opens in new tab, requires UEF login).
