UEF provides each new student, both Finnish and international, with a student tutor. Student tutoring is mainly available at the beginning of the semesters.
If you are an exchange student or a degree-seeking student in a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme, your student tutor will contact you by email a few weeks before the semester begins. Please ensure that you have provided a valid email address that you check regularly.
When your student tutor contacts you, please:
- reply to confirm that you have received the message, and
- inform your tutor of your travel plans as soon as your arrival details are known.
What does a student tutor do?
Student tutors are UEF students (both Finnish and international) who have volunteered to support new students. They are not staff members.
Student tutors are trained by UEF to help new students get started with their studies and everyday life in Joensuu or Kuopio. They are also a good source of practical tips related to studying and student life. Please note that tutors have their own duties, studies and schedules, and are therefore not available at all times.
When you have arrived in Finland, you will meet your tutor(s) and other students in your tutoring group. If agreed in advance, your tutor may also meet you upon arrival.
Academic advising
Student tutors do not provide academic advising. For information about courses, study content, or academic requirements, please contact the study coordinator of your degree programme.
