Starting from the academic year 2022–2023, the University of Eastern Finland offers a diverse and multidisciplinary minor on sustainable development, known as Studies for Sustainable Future. Available to all Bachelor’s, Master’s, doctoral and exchange students at the University of Eastern Finland, the minor brings together courses on sustainability from different disciplines, focusing on environmental issues and natural resources.
Studies for Sustainable Future offers students, regardless of their major, an excellent and comprehensive opportunity to deepen their understanding of issues relating to sustainability. The minor is highly topical, since the various sustainability challenges we are facing require rapid solutions that can be found through multidisciplinary collaboration. Furthermore, multidisciplinary expertise in sustainability-related issues is also in high demand on the labour market.
Studies for Sustainable Future includes courses from all faculties of the University of Eastern Finland. The diverse selection of courses available in the minor is an indication of the strong and diverse expertise of the University of Eastern Finland especially in themes relating to environmental issues and natural resources. The minor also encourages members of the teaching and research staff to engage in multidisciplinary collaboration, and to think about future needs for sustainability education and research.
Studies for Sustainable Future offers a wide range of courses
Studies for Sustainable Future can be completed as basic and subject studies. The broad selection of courses is divided into thematic modules offered in Finnish, and there is also one module available in English.
