University of Eastern Finland is located on two campuses.
Joensuu campus
The Joensuu Campus is compact and easy to access. The campus is home to nearly 8,000 degree students, so be prepared for a lively atmosphere and corridors filled with happy chatter.
The campus is located right by the city centre, making it easy to pop out to run errands even during the day. In Joensuu, many services for students ranging from student health care to services offered by the Student Union are available right on campus. The Teacher Training School is also located on campus.
The Joensuu Campus boasts excellent facilities for independent study, and the many cafeterias and campus restaurants offer lunch and snacks to be enjoyed in the midst of studying.
Another thing worth remembering is Joensuu Science Park, which is located only a stone’s throw from the campus. Joensuu Science Park hosts some of the university’s teaching facilities, and it is a natural platform for science, technology and business to meet.
City of Joensuu
Joensuu is known as the home of Ilosaarirock Festival and as a Fairtrade City. Sometimes the city is even referred to as the Forestry Capital of Europe.
Joensuu is the second largest city in eastern Finland and the 12th largest city in the country. About 75,000 people live in Joensuu, and every third inhabitant is under 30 years of age.
Joensuu is a place where a peaceful environment meets a rich offering of culture and hobby opportunities. The beautiful scenery and the unspoilt lakes and rivers offer almost endless possibilities for sports and recreation. Indeed, Joensuu is home to approximately one hundred different sports clubs. The city’s vivid selection of theatre and music, on the other hand, constitutes excellent food for the soul. Around Ilosaarirock Festival in July, the streets of Joensuu are crowded with happy festival goers, while the darkening days of autumn are brightened up by Rokumentti Rock Film Festival.
Kuopio campus
The Kuopio Campus is located in beautiful surroundings, right by a lake. The city centre is only a short walk away from the campus, and Kuopio University Hospital is also located right next to the campus area.
The Technopolis building, home to Kuopio Science Park, is located in the vicinity of the campus, creating a natural platform for science, research and business to meet. At the Kuopio Campus, all services of importance to students are near by. The Student Union’s office is located on campus, and student health care services can be found only a stone’s throw away. The area where the campus is located, Savilahti, is under constant development. The city is planning on turning Savilahti into an area filled with opportunities for studying, working and living.
City of Kuopio
There is a lot more to Kuopio than Kalakukko, a pastry enjoying the Traditional Specialty Guaranteed status. The city is known for the Puijo Tower, a lively market square and the Kuopio Dance Festival. With its 112,000 inhabitants, Kuopio is the largest city in eastern Finland and the ninth largest city in the country.
Kuopio is a dynamic city surrounded by beautiful nature. Although modern and constantly evolving, it hasn’t forgotten its roots. Boasting an excellent selection of services combined with a cosy atmosphere, Kuopio is an attractive place to live in. The city’s numerous running paths, skiing tracks, slalom slopes and swimming station offer possibilities for a diverse selection of hobbies.
For those hungry for culture, Kuopio has a lot to offer. The Kuopio Wine Festival, the Kuopio RockCock festival and the Kuopio Dance Festival provide something for all tastes, and the city’s vast selection of museums, theatres and concerts is a thing worth remembering, too.
