This page contains information about the application periods for outgoing exchange at UEF. The application periods refer to the first stage of the exchange application process, i.e. your application to UEF. The second stage – applying to the host university – follows a separate, university-specific timeline. You will receive instructions for the second stage from International Mobility Services or directly from the host university once you have been selected as UEF’s candidate.
For instructions about the application process and selection criteria, see General instructions for applying.
Application periods during the academic year
UEF has two primary application periods (November and February) and two supplementary application periods (May and September). We recommend applying during the primary application period for your chosen exchange programme, when the majority of placements are available. The application periods are the same each academic year.
Exact dates for the application period deadline may vary slightly depending on the day of the week the 15th occurs. If the 15th occurs on the weekend or on a public holiday, the application period is generally extended until 3:00 PM (Finnish time) on the next business day.
| Application period | Dates | Exchange programmes | For when can you apply for |
| November (primary) | 1-15 Nov | Bilateral exchange, ISEP Exchange, North2north. | Next academic year: autumn semester, spring semester, or full academic year. |
| February (primary) | 1-15 Feb | Erasmus+, YUFE Alliance, Nordplus/Nordlys. Also supplementary call for bilateral exchange, possible supplementary call for North2north. | Europe: Next academic year, autumn, spring, or full academic year. Bilateral exchange: next spring semester (some destinations may also be available for autumn). |
| May (supplementary) | 1-15 May | All programmes with availability. | Next academic year: spring semester. |
| September (supplementary) | 1-15 Sept | YUFE Alliance, limited options from other programmes. | Next spring semester (within the same academic year). |
Important
Not all host universities are available during every application period. Always check the call for applications to see which destinations are open for each period.
Calls for applications are published before each application period on the page Calls for applications.
Open YUFE exchange: eligibility
If you are applying for Open YUFE exchange, you must have a valid Open YUFE study right in order to be eligible. For more information about the Open YUFE study right, see the YUFE Alliance Kamu page.
Application deadlines
The application period generally closes on the last day of the application round at 3:00 PM (Finnish time). The exact deadline and any exceptions are always stated in the calls for applications – read them carefully before starting your application.
Remember
- You cannot submit your application after the deadline, even if you started it before the time expired.
- The deadline is in the afternoon so that International Mobility Services can still assist with technical issues until the last moment.
- If the last day of the application period falls on a weekend, the deadline may have been extended to the next working day – check the call for applications.
- Do not leave your application until the last days or last minutes – International Mobility Services is not responsible for any issues related to internet connection, time differences, or other technical problems that may prevent you from submitting your application on time.
- It is solely your responsibility to ensure that your application is fully complete and submitted before the deadline.
Short-term exchange and traineeship grant applications
In addition to semester or academic year exchanges, you can also apply for grants for short-term study abroad periods and traineeships throughout the academic year. Applications are submitted in the SoleMOVE system.
