There are spaces available for quiet studying, group working and for passing the time. Below are the self-study facilities in Joensuu and Kuopio campuses.

Carelia teamwork rooms
There are five teamwork rooms reserved for students on the second floor of the library in Carelia: 2A1, 2A2, 2A5 and 2A6. Rooms have seats for 8 to 10 people. All rooms are equipped with a computer and a large monitor.
Reservations for the present week can be made directly in the list by the door. If you want to reserve the room for a later date, please contact the Oppari help desk on the ground floor or call tel. 050 5674209. It is possible to reserve a team work space for three hours at a time.
In addition to these teamwork rooms there are spaces of different sizes on the third floor: 3A1, 3A5, 3A6, 3B1, 3B2 and 3B3.
Library’s first floor self-study and reading facilities are in round-the-clock use with an access badge. Fill in the library’s contract form online Identity and access rights. When you have received the Application approved email, come to the library to sign the contract and to pay the access badge deposit fee of 40 €.
After that, you can get the access badge from the Facilities Management’s Key Services / AU1032. To facilitate the process, please fill in and print out the application for keys and access badges form (logging in required) in advance. The access badge can only be returned to the Facilities Management’s Key Services / AU1032. The deposit will be refunded primarily to a bank account when the access badge is returned. The Key Services is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 12pm.
Check Carelia 24/7 entrance times from the library’s home page: Library//Opening hours Joensuu Campus Library. Access badge holders will be added to the Carelia 24/7 Yammer group where, for example, the exceptional closing times will be announced.
The following computer labs are also available if there is no scheduled teaching in them:
Atrium is located on the ground floor of Aurora II-building, in the Carelian Institute, entrance B. Atrium is intended for quiet studying – it is possible to work alone or in a group. The room is equipped with 16 computers, and it has spaces for relaxation. Printing is not possible. Open from Monday to Friday 7:45 am until 4:15 pm.
Lounge is located on the ground floor of Aurora I-building, opposite the Aura-restaurant. The space is intended for quiet studying alone or in a group. Equippment: UEF wlan, spaces for relaxation, no computers, no printing possibilities. Open during opening hours of the building.
Computer classes MP102 and MP103 are open 24/7 and they are situated in the Metria-building, psychology wing. Class MP102 has 20 computers and MP103 has 25 computers. It is possible to print in both classes. The rooms are available if there is no scheduled teaching in them. To be able to access these classes 24/7 you need to have a access badge which you can obtain from the Facilities Managements/AU1032. You can get a access badge by showing your valid student card and paying a deposit of 40 €. To facilitate the process please fill out the application for keys and access badges in advance. On-campus self-study facilities (Canthia, Snellmania, Kukkola) offer students the use of a total of 190 computers.
The computer labs CA103, CA104 ja CA105 (Canthia), MD101 (Mediteknia) are available if there is no scheduled teaching in them .

The study space in the front (46 computers) is intended for casual studying – it is possible to work alone or in a group, and discussions with others are allowed. The space is divided by the service desk that offers help during opening hours.
The same space offers two accessible working stations that have height-adjustable desks. They are located so that it is easy for the person using the station to ask for help from the service desk when necessary.
The spaces in the back (58 computers) are meant for quiet independent study. These stations are divided with screens.
Printers are located next to the service desk.
There are two kinds of teamwork rooms. The bigger ones (5) have a large 46″ monitor, a computer, video conference equipment, digital tv, and a flip chart. There is room for eight people. The smaller ones are equipped with a computer, a scanner, a large computer desk and two smaller group stations. You can reserve a teamwork space by contacting the service desk (tel. 040 355 3626). Reservations are made for two hours at a time.
Oppari offers also a space for relaxation. You can watch TV or read newspapers.
To be able to access these classes 24/7 you need to have an access badge which you can obtain from the Key Services in the Snellmania Building, room 1078/5, entrance H, 1st floor. You can get a access badge by showing your valid student card and paying a deposit of 40 €. Keys and access badges are handed over only against an Application for Keys form that has been signed by the head of the department concerned or by a person in charge of keys.
- Karsina is located in the building Kukkola on the ground floor. Self-study space Karsina (24 h) is at your disposal all year and all day round.
- Computer lab MD101 in Mediteknia -building can be used for quiet studying during the academic year from 6 pm until 08 am and during days if there is no scheduled teaching in the class. Otherwise the class can be accessed 24/7. If the main entrance of Mediteknia is closed, it is possible to access the side door (entrance 2) of the building. NB! Computer lab MD101 is out of use until further notice, due to water damage on 14th of July, 2018.
