Support for Monitoring Study Progress – Fokus to Be Introduced in Autumn Semester 2026

The University of Eastern Finland will introduce a new service called Fokus during the autumn semester of 2026. The service supports student guidance as well as the monitoring of education.

Fokus brings together information on study progress from the Peppi system into a single view and presents it in a clear and visual way. The service provides both students and staff with up-to-date information on how studies are progressing and helps identify situations where support is needed.

For students, Fokus offers a view of their own study progress and plans, and the service is accessed via the Peppi desktop. For staff, and especially for academic counsellors, the service provides tools for monitoring students’ progress and targeting guidance effectively. Counsellors can apply for access rights to the Fokus service through the UEF e-services portal. Access rights will be available for application starting in August.

In addition, the service supports educational management, monitoring of study progress, and the forecasting of graduation.

Support for using the service is available through Peppi support ([email protected]).

More information about the service rollout, schedule, and detailed instructions will be provided during the autumn.

History Materials Moved to Hall 2A in Joensuu campus library

The collections of the Joensuu Campus Library have been reorganized during spring and summer 2026. By relocating materials, we prepare for the changes resulting from upcoming campus development.

As part of the change, all printed history books have been moved to hall 2A. They can now be found on shelves 39–50 and 63–77, close to the doors of hall 2A. Borrowable history books, reading room books and history journals, as well as books on military science and military history, have been moved to hall 2A. No changes have been made to the collections at the time of transfer.

Many other subjects have also been moved around, especially in hall 2A, so always check the location of the book you are looking for in UEF Primo. There you will find the book’s up-to-date location, class, and main entry, which will help you find the book on the shelf. The location guide will help you locate the classes in the rooms. If needed, ask the library staff for help!

We will move the Joensuu Campus Library collections on the second floor at the turn of May and June

We will move the Joensuu Campus Library collections from hall 2B to hall 2A at the turn of May and June. The estimated duration of the work is 25 May – 5 June 2026. The materials will remain available throughout the move. However, signage may be temporarily outdated or incomplete. If you cannot find the book you are looking for, please ask the staff for assistance.

During the move, staff will be moving heavy book carts in both halls. Please exercise caution when walking through these areas and follow the signs provided.

The move may cause noise and other disturbances, especially in library halls 2A and 2B. Quieter workspaces and group work rooms are available on the third floor.

Personal storage lockers at the Joensuu Campus Library temporarily out of use for the summer

Joensuu Campus Library has storage lockers, and it has been possible to make a separate fixed-term agreement with the library for their use. The current storage locker agreements will expire by the end of May, after which the lockers will be temporarily out of use.

We will carry out maintenance work on the storage lockers during the summer, and the aim is to have them available again at the start of the autumn semester. It is not possible to reserve a previously used locker in advance. We will provide a separate update when you can once again make a storage locker agreement.

We would also like to remind you that there are storage lockers managed by the university’s Facilities Services in the connecting corridor leading to the Joensuu Campus Library and inside the library next to the exam rooms. These lockers are intended for short-term storage of belongings. They are used by creating a temporary four-digit code. The lockers open automatically nine hours after activation, so please remember to empty them before the time limit.
