Changes to group study rooms from 1 September 2026

We would like to remind you that Joensuu Campus Library has two types of group study rooms:

  • The group study rooms on the 2nd floor that can be booked via Tuudo and Peppi are managed by Oppari. The booking right for these bookable rooms ends one hour before the library closes.
  • The group study rooms on the 3rd floor, managed by the library, can be used when they are available.

Use of room CK216, located at the far end of the stair landing on the library’s 2nd floor, will be expanded to include 24/7 access outside the library’s opening hours. The room will be emptied when the library closes and will be available for booking by 24/7 users after a 15-minute clearing period. During 24/7 hours, the room may be used by customers who have booked it and who have the library’s 24/7 access badge. The 24/7 self-study facilities are only for UEF students and staff. An access badge can be applied for using a separate form.

Room CK245, located on the library’s 2nd floor at the hall 2A, will be changed from a group study room into a self-study space for several people. The room has 12 individual workspaces, which are easiest to book using the Tuudo app via the QR code on the room door. This room cannot be used during 24/7 hours, as the halls on the 2nd and 3rd floors are not part of the library’s 24/7 area.

The 3B3 group study room, located at the far end of the stair landing on the library’s 3rd floor, will be opened for 24/7 use. The room cannot be booked in advance.

The changes concerning group study rooms will take effect on 1 September 2026.

Personal storage lockers available again from 7 September 2026

Maintenance of the personal storage lockers at Joensuu Campus Library is nearly complete. The lockers will be taken back into use on Monday, 7 September 2026, and locker agreements can be made at the library’s customer service desk during service hours from that date onwards. We cannot guarantee that customers will be able to keep the same locker they previously used.

From now on, personal storage lockers are intended for students and staff of the University of Eastern Finland. The other storage lockers intended for temporary use in the library premises will continue to be available to all customers.

There is still time to apply for exchange for Spring 2027!

The September supplementary application for exchange studies during spring semester 2027 will be open 1-15 Sept, ending on Tuesday, 15 Sept, at 3:00 PM (Finnish time). During this application period, you can only apply for exchanges that take place during spring semester 2027, so you cannot apply for exchanges during AY 2027-28 yet.

The following exchange programmes have available placements:

  • YUFE: Open YUFE and YUFE Minor
  • Erasmus+
  • Bilateral exchanges

You can find more information about the application period and available placements in the calls for applications, which you can find in Kamu’s Internationalisation section’s page Calls for Applications.

Applications should be submitted in the SoleMove system. As attachments, you will need your transcript (PDF from Peppi) and a motivation letter (in English, 1-2 A4 pages). You should also describe your preliminary study plan for the exchange in the application, so make sure you check the host university’s course catalogues before making your application.

Library opening hours in the autumn term

Library offices will move to the opening hours of the autumn term on Monday, August 31, 2026. 
 
Joensuu campus library facilities are open between 8–18 on weekdays and 10–14 on Saturdays. Kuopio campus library facilities are open between 8–18 from Monday to Wednesday and between 8-16 on Thursdays and Fridays. Kuopio campus library is closed on Saturdays. In both libraries, the first hours of weekday mornings are self-service hours. Customer service starts at 10 a.m. 
 
24/7 Self-study facilities are open normally for the rest of the year, also during holidays.

IT Servicedesk and Oppari opening hours will be standardized as of 31 August 2026

From 31 August 2026 onwards, IT Servicedesk and Oppari will serve customers on both campuses Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 15.00. 

In addition, Oppari  offers extended afternoon service: Monday to Friday until 18.00, and on Saturdays from 10.00 to 14.00. 

Outside these opening hours, you can use other self-study facilities. More information: Self-study facilities – UEF Kamu. 

In Kuopio, the laptop lending machine has been moved outside of the Oppari facilities. More information: IT device lending machines – UEF Kamu.

Are you wondering about your future? Where will I find work? How will I be convincing in the job interview? What can I do with my degree? What are my strengths? Am I in the right field? What should I study as a minor subject? What rights and obligations do I have as an employee?

Students pondering about their future directions or seeking traineeships and employment are troubled by many questions. Nevertheless, don’t worry! Practical guidance, knowledge and support is there for you on the career planning and job seeking courses offered by UEF Career Services.

Sign up for the career planning and job seeking courses in the autumn starts 10.8.2026. The first courses begin on 14th September 2026. Find the course details in Peppi!

In the Peppi Study Guide you will find further information about the courses. The courses for the academic year 2026–2027 include the following courses in English and Finnish:

  • Career planning – self-study course, 2 ECTS
  • Career portfolio building – practical exercises, 1 ECTS
  • Job seeking – self-study course, 1 ECTS
  • Job seeking – practical exercises, 1 ECTS
  • Start to Finnish – an online course on Finnish working life, 1 ECTS
  • Basics of Finnish working life – self-study course, 1 ECTS (only in English)

The courses offered by the UEF Career Services are meant for all students to support and help them during studies and when the move towards working life becomes timely. The courses offer you knowledge, skills, courage and attitude for the future working life. In these courses, you can also clarify your thoughts about your future and career possibilities.

We have received positive feedback about the studies from students. Participants in the career planning self-study course have stated:

  • ”I think the course was good in stirring up thoughts and it helped me analyze my own, sometimes scattered, thoughts about my future career. Although I already had a lot of knowledge about the working life, this course was a good add-on in creating my own career plan.”
  • ”Thanks to the career plan I composed during the course, I now feel more confident about my studies. The course clarified my career aims and I also got a clear picture of what working life skills I already possess and what I should develop further.”

The job-seeking self-study course furnished students with hands-on tools to be used in practice:

  • ”I managed to find new job seeking methods that I can use in the job seeking process. The different channels where jobs can be found were especially useful.”

The basics of Finnish working life self-study course introduces the general outlook of the Finnish working environment with its regulations and habits:

  • “I think this course was good especially for foreign students who would like to find a job from Finland.”

The Student and Learning Services’ customer service point in Joensuu is only open by appointment from 19 June to 2 August 2026

On the Joensuu campus, the Student and Learning Services’ customer service point is only open by appointment from 19 June to 2 August 2026 because the doors to the Aurora I building are locked.

You can book an appointment from our booking site for the next day, at the earliest, and a week in advance, at most. The available times are shown in the calendar.

If you book an appointment between 19 June and 2 August 2026, someone will come let you in the Aurora building from entrance A about 5 minutes before your meeting.

On the Kuopio campus, the customer service point is open as usual until 2 August 2026.

From 3 to 23 August 2026 the customer service points on both campuses are only open by appointment

  1. Kuopio Campus Library will be closed from 6 July to 26 July 2026. Please prepare for the closure by obtaining a personal access badge in advance. The badge allows you to enter the library outside its opening hours.  Fill in the form to apply the access no later than Wednesday 8 July. The last opportunity to collect an access badge from Key Services before their summer closure is Thursday 9 July from 9.00 to 12.00.
  2. Whichever campus library you use, please note that during the Kuopio closure, materials will not be transported between the Joensuu and Kuopio campus libraries. Reserve any books you need well in advance. The loan periods at both locations will extend beyond the Kuopio closure period.
  3. During the closure period, returns in Kuopio can be left  in the book drop hatch at the A‑door of the Snellmania building, or in the hatch located in front of the library inside the building. With an access badge, you can return items directly to the library’s return machine. At the Joensuu campus library, you can return books as usual.
  4. Interlibrary services will be closed from 6 July to 2 August 2026. Please submit interlibrary loan requests well in advance.

We will monitor the library service email accounts as usual during the summer. The library bot Uffe is available 24/7 to assist with common questions on the library website and in UEF Primo.
