PrintThe Microsoft 365 service offered by the university includes e.g. e-mail, personal storage, co-working spaces, digital notebook, Office tools (also available for UEF students to download to their own mobile devices and computers) and a search center. New apps and tools are constantly added to the Microsoft 365 environment. A list of tools is provided in the app launcher’s ‘All apps’ link.
At the UEF, Digital Services and Oppari offer support for using the following basic tools, but you may use any of the tools included in the menu that you find useful independently.
Login
Straight link to Microsoft 365 service: portal.office.com (new tab, login required).
- Give your username as username@uef.fi.
- The service goes to UEF login page.
- Give your credentials.
- Confirm with MFA (Multi-factor Authentication), more information: uef.fi/dipa (new tab).
- Continue sign in.
Office tools and installation
The Microsoft 365 environment also includes familiar Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) that enable editing documents quickly on the web browser without having to install the complete Office suite on your computer. Files can be stored automatically and you can use, edit, and share the newest version also when you are on the move.
As a student, if you have registered as present at the university, you can install Office on five devices.
- Log in to the Microsoft 365 service portal.office.com (new tab, login required) with your UEF username@uef.fi and password.
- In the upper right corner, press “Install apps”.
- After downloading, install the package and login to the Office with username@uef.fi.
Teams
Teams unites all the M365 tools for team collaboration. Check Teams playbook (new tab, login required) and Teams help & learning (new tab).
Yammer (now Viva Engage)
UEF’s Viva Engage is a private social network through which you can stay in contact with other UEF people, share information between groups, and organize projects. Viva Engage groups are utilized by study communities but also during courses. Look recommendation on the use of Viva Engage at the University of Eastern Finland (new tab, login required).

OneDrive
Your own, personal storage space (5 TB). You can share files with other UEF people, with edit rights or read-only rights. You can also share documents with persons outside the organisation.
Remember that you cannot save everything on the cloud, check the Information protection and processing instructions (new tab, login required).
SharePoint
All the workspaces that you belong to are in SharePoint, and you can also see workspaces that are open to everyone. You can also create a workspace for a team if you need a place where you can organise content, data and news, and share these among the team.
OneNote
OneNote is a digital notebook for making personal notes.
Delve
Delve is a discovery tool that can be used to find, for example, the contact details of UEF people and documents to which you have access rights, such as your own documents in OneDrive, documents shared with you, public documents related to the news published in Heimo, documents of SharePoint groups that you belong to, and service-related documents in Heimo.
