Every year, UEF Library raffles off a grant worth EUR 100 among UEF students who have made their master’s (level) thesis publicly available that same year.

The grant will be raffled off a couple of weeks before the international Open Access Week among all UEF students who have since the last raffle made their master’s thesis publicly available on UEF eRepo and who sign up for the raffle using this form.

You haven’t limited or aren’t going to limit your own work beyond open science, have you?

There is now information on how you can utilize AI applications and tools in information retrieval, including when searching for scientific information, available on the library’s webpages.

The general VAT rate rises in Finland from 24% to 25.5% as of 1 September 2024. The list of library service fees remains essentially unchanged after the increase. Only the hourly rates for information retrieval and teaching services for non-university customers will increase from 65 euros to 66 euros.

New version of Zotero reference management program available

The new Zotero 7 was released in August 2024. The function and performance have been improved. Outward appearance of the program has been slightly modernized too. Nevertheless, it is fairly easy for existing Zotero 6 users to switch over to the new version.

Library opening hours in the autumn term

Library offices will move to the opening hours of the autumn term on Monday, September 2, 2024.

Joensuu and Kuopio Campus Library facilities are open between 8–18 on weekdays and 10–14 on Saturdays. The first hours of weekday mornings are self-service hours. From Monday to Saturday customer service starts at 10 a.m.

KUH Medical Library is open between 12–17 on Mondays and between 10–15 from Tuesday to Thursday.

24/7 Self-study facilities are open normally for the rest of the year, also during holidays.

  • The trainings introduce the basic functions of the Zotero reference management software and how to use the Zotero Word Plugin.
  • The trainings will be held on Teams. Advance registration is not needed.
  • Before the training session, if you wish, you can install Zotero on your computer. See the library’s instructions. After that you can already start using Zotero.

Monday–Tuesday 8–16 (Customer Service 10–16) 
Wednesday 8–18 (Customer Service 10–18) 
Thursday–Friday 8–16 (Customer Service 10–16) 
Saturday–Sunday closed

The Library 24/7 self-study facilities are open normally.

KUH Medical Library

Opening hours 1.–30.6. and 1.–31.8.

Monday–Thursday 10–15 
Friday–Sunday closed

Chat opening hours 1.6.–31.8.

Monday–Friday 10–16
During exceptional opening hours live chat closes as the customer service of campus libraries closes.

Exceptions in the library services

Midsummer
Thursday 20.6. customer service is open 10–13 (Kuopio and Joensuu: the doors will open at 8), chat is open 10–13 
Friday 21.6. customer service and chat are closed

KUH Medical Library is closed 1.7.–1.8.

Interlibrary services are closed 1.7.–26.7.

In Kuopio, due to transformer maintenance, campus library’s self-study facilities are closed from Mon 8.7. 4 pm to Tue 9.7. 10 am. Tue 9.7. library facilities and customer service will not open until 10 a.m.
