Creating a new library card on Tuudo is not possible from 11th to 13th March 2025

Creating a new library card i.e. registering as a library customer is not possible on Tuudo mobile app from Tuesday 11th to Thursday 13th March 2025. There can be problems with creating a new library card on Tuudo also shortly after that.

This is caused by a major service interruption on Peppi. During the interruption please use the registration form on the library’s website. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Look for more information about the Peppi service interruption on the UEF Students Viva Engage channel.

Strong reminder to comply with the library’s Terms of use

We have recently experienced challenges in Joensuu Campus Library. Joensuu Campus Library uses Sound Zones, where the space is divided into three different areas based on the use of sound: Silent area, Working area and Lounge area. Despite this, we often get feedback that, especially in Silent area, the instructions are not followed, but there are discussions and talking on the phone. For this purpose, you can access a lounge area, i.e. Olola, on the 1st floor during the library’s opening hours. Loudness has caused problems also during the 24/7 self-service hours, and it has been worrying to hear that a customer pointing out the issue may have received a rude reception from their peers. The Sound Zone instructions should also be strictly followed during the 24/7 self-service hours.

There have been other issues with behaving in the library, too. Rubbish and biowaste have repeatedly been left on the library premises. This puts an unnecessary strain on the cleaning services and is highly unpleasant for all of us.

Occasionally, cases arise where people have also let others enter our 24/7 facilities with their personal access badge. We will immediately respond to such abuse by terminating the person’s 24/7 contract. We remind you that according to the library’s Terms of use, the user should behave in an orderly fashion within the library premises and refrain from disturbing other library users. The starting point should be respect for other people. The library user may be removed from the library premises for unpleasant behaviour towards other library users or the library staff. When using the library’s services, the library user must comply with the library’s terms of use and pay attention to instructions given by the library staff. Failure to comply with the library’s rules and regulations will result in a suspension for a fixed period. If there are frequent disturbances during the 24/7 self-service time, the library may even consider temporarily closing the 24/7 facilities.

Library news on teaching of the past academic year & the upcoming curriculum

The library offers courses on information retrieval, research data management, and open science for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies in Finnish and English. These courses are available as mandatory and elective courses, either as separate courses or integrated into larger courses. The library collects feedback on all its courses. The library’s teaching was praised for combining theory and practice and integrating teaching into practical information retrieval for one’s own research topic. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback!

The library continuously develops its teaching to meet future skill needs in studies, research, and working life, and in line with the university’s priorities.

Ensuring quiet working conditions in the library

Recently, we have received feedback on the noise level of the library. We remind you that the Joensuu Campus Library has Sound Zones in use. Everyone has the right to concentrate and work undisturbed in the library. If you notice any disturbing noise, please point it out. If necessary, you can always ask the library staff for help.

A large number of people use our facilities on a daily basis. Each person’s effort is crucial for maintaining a pleasant environment.
