We have taught Library Bot Uffe the secrets of information retrieval

Uffe has recently learned the tips for information retrieval and is now ready to guide us in the search for information. Uffe knows where publications and databases can be found, how to search for information, how to use thesaurus and much more.

Uffe can be found on the library website. Feel free to chat with Uffe!

The Library is invoicing borrowing fees at the end of April

We are invoicing unpaid borrowing service fees at the end of April. By paying all the unpaid fees before that, you can avoid the invoicing. Web payment in UEF Primo is a quick and easy way to pay the overdue and reservation fees online. It is possible if the amount of fees is at least one euro. You can also pay the fees at the Joensuu and Kuopio campus libraries’ customer service with a debit/credit card. Payment is not possible in the KUH Medical Library, because there is no cash service.

Joensuu Campus Library introduces Sound zones and a new Reflection room for customers

Joensuu Campus Library is excited to announce two new additions to improve the customer experience for all library users. Firstly, the introduction of Sound zones in Joensuu to help customers easily identify areas within the library where they can collaborate and work together, as well as areas where they can concentrate in silence. Secondly, the library now has a new Reflection room that is multicultural and open for everyone who wants to spend some time in silence, for example, meditating or praying.

We understand that different library users have different needs when it comes to the level of noise they prefer, and our new Sound zones will help make the library a more welcoming place for everyone. Whether you’re studying for an exam, working on a group project, or simply seeking a quiet space to read, the library now has designated areas to meet your needs. Working conditions in Kuopio Campus Library have remained relatively quiet, so we consider the current signs to be sufficient there for the time being.

To help customers easily identify these zones, we have also improved our signage. Clear and easy-to-read signs have been placed throughout the library, so you can easily find the area that best suits you. “We hope that this change will further improve the library as a study environment”, says Marja Maijala, Head of Customer Services.

The new Reflection room, located at the hall 2A, is available to all library users and is designed to be a multicultural space where anyone can e.g., spend time in silence, meditate, or pray. We hope this space provides a peaceful escape from the busy day.

We also want to remind our customers that there are additional Reflection rooms available in Joensuu and Kuopio campuses. Please read more about them on Kamu (students) or Heimo (staff).

We encourage all library users to take advantage of these new additions and give us feedback. For more information about the library’s new Sound zones, please visit our website or ask one of our friendly librarians.

Maintenance break of library’s RTVA workplaces on March 14th

On Tuesday, March 14th, the RTVA services of the Joensuu and Kuopio Campus Libraries have a service break that affects streaming and is likely to take several hours. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The radio and TV archive is a database that can be accessed from campus libraries’ legal depostit copy workstations. There you can find national radio and television programmes recorded by the National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI). The index of RTVA is available online.

We have recently updated the instructions for legal deposit copy workstations, so you can also find more information about the content on site.

Repair work at the Joensuu Campus Library’s 3A hall

Repair work is being done at the Joensuu Campus Library’s 3A hall. Some of our material has been temporarily moved to make room for it. As usually, you can use The Call Number Guide to locate the material or you can ask the library. The Kalevala collection is unavailable during the repair work.

Suomen Yliopistokiinteistöt Oy announces:

“There is a local barrier to the use of the premises and in its immediate vicinity there may be intermittent noise from the repair work for about 3-4 weeks. The work will start during week 9. It is estimated that the work will be completed in its entirety by April 3, 2023. The repair area is delimited by a protective wall. The books that were in the area have been moved by the library staff.

Due to the strike of the Finnish Transport Workers’ Union AKT, transport between the library offices is at a standstill, so the arrival of the reserved material may be delayed.

According to current information, the strike will continue until 21 February unless an agreement is reached in the negotiations before that.
