Requirements of doctoral studies and study plan

Print

For a doctoral degree, you have to complete studies worth of 30 to 50 credits depending on your doctoral programme. The majority of studies are discipline-specific studies, and the minority transferable skills, which are typically 5-15 credits depending on your doctoral programme.

The studies will be specified in a personal study plan, which must be created within three months after receiving the right to study. Create the plan in co-operation with your main supervisor using the doctoral study plan- form.

The personal study plan must follow the requirements of your doctoral programme (which you can find below) and the studies must be specified on a level of individual courses. When creating a plan, you should consider your previous education as well as the theme and methodology of your dissertation. You may also consider your personal goals, e.g. related to career. Those aiming for an academic career, will benefit from methodological skills. Business and leadership skills are useful for a career within the R&D- sector etc. Discuss your goals with your main supervisor.

You can update the plan during the course of your doctoral studies. When preparing to submit your dissertation to pre-examination, please, check that the completed coursework matches with the accepted study plan.
