Take this commuting survey by 6 October 2021 and have an impact on the university’s sustainability work!

Dear student of the University of Eastern Finland,

Last year we calculated the carbon footprint of the university for the first time. However, the impact of commuting between the home and the workplace couldn’t be estimated due to a lack of the necessary data. Therefore, we now invite you to fill out this commuting survey that will help us estimate the climate impacts of student commuting. The results can also be used in improving commuting conditions and sustainability reporting. This survey is only meant for UEF students, a similar survey was carried out for the staff already in the spring.

Completing the survey is voluntary. The responses are anonymous, and they will be treated confidentially. By leaving your contact information at the end of the survey you have a chance to win a small price.

Filling out the survey is easy and will take only a few minutes. You can access the commuting survey here.

Please answer the survey by Wednesday 6 October 2021.

University of Eastern Finland is taking action in response to the coronavirus situation in Kuopio

The University of Eastern Finland is taking action in response to the coronavirus exposures that took place in connection with student events in Kuopio last week. First- and second-year students of medicine and dentistry, and first-year students of biomedicine and nutrition have switched to online study for the following two weeks. The university is monitoring the situation and works in close collaboration with the City of Kuopio’s health authorities. Further action will be taken as needed.

“The message from the health authorities is that all those who attended student events in Kuopio last week should stay under in quarantine-like conditions, i.e., refrain from visiting public places and maintain physical distance from others. Also, it is recommended to get tested for COVID-19 even at the slightest sight of symptoms,” Director of Administration Tuomo Meriläinen says.

Last week’s student events were organised responsibly, with great attention to health security.

“Unfortunately, the coronavirus spreads also in pre- and after-parties, and health security should be kept in mind at all times. Better vaccination coverage will make our lives easier in the future. In fact, easily accessible walk-in vaccination events are organised in both Kuopio and Joensuu even this week, and I urge everyone to seize this opportunity,” Meriläinen notes.
