An appeal for ISYY’s members: Vote in the Representative Council elections

The Central Election Committee of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) appeals to every member of ISYY to vote in the Representative Council elections.

By participating in the Representative Council elections, you can best influence the most important matters of your student life and take part in the decision-making. Don’t miss this chance; give your vote to your favorite candidate! You can vote via the electronic ballot box (registering with the UEF username).

Voting matters. The Representative Council members have the power to decide about matters concerning the Student Union and affect on your time as a student in the University as well as the services offered to you by the Student Union. Thus, voting will affect your life directly! If you don’t know yet whom to vote to, get acquainted with candidates with the voting aid.

Voting takes no longer than a minute

All members of the Student Union, who have registered as attending students at the University of Eastern Finland before the 22nd of October 2019, are eligible voters. All eligible voters have received a link by email via which the voting happens. Each person can vote only once.

You can vote during the preliminary voting days or in the actual voting day:
Advance voting: 29.10.–1.11. every day at 9am – 00 (midnight)
The actual voting day: 6.11. at 9am – 6pm

The Representative Council makes significant decisions concerning your life as a student

The Representative Council of the Student Union consists of 39 Representative Council members, “edators”, elected through elections. The Representative Council makes significant decisions concerning all students, for example the Student Union budget, membership fee, action plan, rules, alignments, and so on. The action plan and the alignments for example define, how the Student Union will operate during the present year and what matters will especially be enhanced – for example how the student housing should be developed?

Put simply, the Student Union could be seen as a nation where students are its citizens. The citizens=students elect the Parliament=Representative Council, who then elect the Committees and the Government=Executive Board. And that’s all there is to it!

In the Representative Council elections, even a one vote can make a difference and you are the one who decides who to vote for!

Use Your Vote in the European Elections 2019!

This spring is a good time to make a difference. We have already voted in the Finnish Parliamentary Elections, and now we have a chance to set the course of the European Parliament for the next five years!

What Elections?

The European Parliament is one of the legislative organs of the European Union. EU citizens elect members of the parliament in direct elections held in every member state every five years. The previous elections were held in 2014.

Advance voting for the European Elections is held from the 15th to 21st of May in Finland, and from the 15th to 18th of May in other countries. In Finland, the election day is Sunday the 26th of May.

A citizen of another EU Member State living in Finland may choose to vote in the European Parliamentary elections in Finland. This requires, however, that he or she has enrolled (until 7th of March) with the voting register in Finland beforehand to the local register office. If you are allowed to vote for another EU Member State in Finland, you should get the instructions to vote from your relevant authority of your home country.

Everyone who is entitled to vote may vote at a general advance polling station, regardless of their municipality of residence. Anyone who is entitled to vote may also vote abroad at Finnish embassies. On election day, you must vote at the polling station assigned to you!

ISYY’s Election Events in Joensuu and Kuopio

What are the European Elections? What does the European Parliament do? How doest the decision-making affect you? If you are unsure, no worries, ISYY organises on both of its campuses election events, where you can find out more about the European Parliament and the elections.
