Thorium Reader is the new reading application for Ellibs books

For those who use Ellibs on computer, it is now possible to download eBooks to Thorium Reader. Thorium Reader supports the open-source Readium LCP (Licensed Content Protection) protection method for eBooks. Thorium Reader has paid special attention to accessibility. The application has, for example, a built-in read aloud feature for eBooks and extensive options for customizing the reading view.

You will need a personal LCP password to read eBooks in Thorium Reader. You can find the password in ‘My Bookshelf’ when you log in to Ellibs. Thorium Reader will ask for your password the first time you download an e-book file to the reader. Afterwards, the program will only request the password occasionally.

Adobe Digital Editions remains an alternative reader to Thorium Reader on Ellibs for the time being. Ellibs’ own application remains the recommended reader for mobile devices. Most of Ellibs’ books can also be read via a web browser.

Further information on the instructions page of the Ellibs Library.

Exceptions in the library opening hours due to Finnish Independence Day

Joensuu and Kuopio Campus Libraries are open on Tuesday 5th December 2023 8am–3pm (customer service 10am–3pm) and KUH Medical Library 10am–3pm. On Independence Day 6th December 2023 all library offices are closed.

The library’s 24/7 self-study facilities are open despite these exceptions.

Delay in processing the 24/7 access badges of the Joensuu Campus Library

There is currently a delay in processing student access permit applications at the Joensuu campus: as due to a global component shortage, the university’s Key Services has not received new access tokens. This affects, for example, getting a 24/7 access badge of the library. According to current information, more access tokens will be available in December, and the processing of students’ access permit applications will be continued then. Applicants will be notified as soon as the access badges can be picked up. We apologize for the situation.

Joensuu campus library extends its 24/7 self-study facilities to the stair landings

In Joensuu, the library’s 24/7 self-study facilities have so far been limited to the 1st floor. Now the use of the facilities will be extended to the stair landings on the 2nd and 3rd floors. You can use an elevator to move between the floors.

The toilets, storage lockers and working spaces on the stair landings can now be used during the self-study period. Joensuu Campus Library has Sound Zones. The stair landings belong to a working area where quiet conversation is allowed with others in mind: sound carries quite easily from upper floors to the 1st floor. The halls on the 2nd and 3rd floors are still accessible only during the library’s opening hours.

The first-floor corridor between Carelia and Conservatory of Music will remain open as usual, and its storage lockers and toilet facilities will be available.  The accessible toilet can be found in the corridor.

The storage facilities on the first floor (Avola and Liukula) and the lounge Olola will continue to be used only during the library’s opening hours.
