Joensuu campus library extends its 24/7 self-study facilities to the stair landings

In Joensuu, the library’s 24/7 self-study facilities have so far been limited to the 1st floor. Now the use of the facilities will be extended to the stair landings on the 2nd and 3rd floors. You can use an elevator to move between the floors.

The toilets, storage lockers and working spaces on the stair landings can now be used during the self-study period. Joensuu Campus Library has Sound Zones. The stair landings belong to a working area where quiet conversation is allowed with others in mind: sound carries quite easily from upper floors to the 1st floor. The halls on the 2nd and 3rd floors are still accessible only during the library’s opening hours.

The first-floor corridor between Carelia and Conservatory of Music will remain open as usual, and its storage lockers and toilet facilities will be available.  The accessible toilet can be found in the corridor.

The storage facilities on the first floor (Avola and Liukula) and the lounge Olola will continue to be used only during the library’s opening hours.

The library is invoicing overdue and reservation fees in the beginning of November

We are invoicing unpaid overdue and reservation fees in the beginning of November. You can avoid the invoicing by paying your fees before that. Web payment on UEF Primo is a quick and easy way to pay the fees online. It is possible if the amount of fees is at least one euro. You can also pay the fees at the Joensuu and Kuopio campus libraries’ customer service with a payment card. Payment is not possible in the KUH Medical Library because there is no cash service.

UEF Primo search service now has Open Knowledge Maps integration

With one click, you can repeat your UEF Primo search in BASE or PubMed and get a grouped visualization.

  • A Knowledge Map presents you with a topical overview for your search query based on the 100 most relevant documents matching your query.
  • They use text similarity to create the knowledge maps. The algorithm groups those documents together that have many words in common.
  • The visualization is intended to give you a head start on your scholarly search. You can identify relevant areas at a glance and documents related to them.

Welcome to information retrieval, both newcomers and old hands!

It is normal for you to look for textbooks, articles, and other publications at a suitable time whenever you need information. The Guide to Information Retrieval intended for all kinds of information searchers, so you can take advantage of the guide when it suits you.

The guide is not only a self-study package, but information retrieval teachers Jussi, Marika and Jaakko, for example, use it in their courses when appropriate. What kind of themes from the guide are covered within their courses?

Progress of the maintenance work of the Joensuu Campus Library

Maintenance work has been carried out at the Joensuu Campus Library since August. Work will continue across the library for the rest of the year, and this will have temporary effects on moving in the facilities and the locations of the material. This may mean that there are alternative routes or that the location information in the Call Number Guide is slightly incorrect for a brief time. We will inform you about changes in more detail in the facilities so that the use of the library will be as smooth as possible also during maintenance work.

Liukula and Avola storage rooms are back in normal use. If you have any questions about changes caused by maintenance work, please contact our staff.
