UEF Library is committed to the Discrimination-free zone campaign

University of Eastern Finland Library is committed to the Discrimination-free zone campaign, coordinated by the Ministry of Justice. This means fighting against discrimination, acting against it, and recognizing equality between people.

Our library welcomes all people regardless of the person’s gender, age, ethnic origin, religion or belief, opinion, state of health, disability or sexual orientation.

A sign in the library premises indicates that we want to take discrimination and equality seriously. It’s only a small gesture, but it can help to raise issues of discrimination.

Answer the survey – help library to improve teaching

Reference management, systematic review, scientific databases… Thesis in progress and rusty skills! What would you like to be taught in the course aimed for master’s thesis writers organized by the library? When should the course be available?

At the library, we are updating the course contents and we would like to hear from the students and staff of the university what do you think is important or what course contents you wish for. You can express your opinion by answering the survey here.

Guess how many books were used to set up the library’s book Christmas tree!

UEF Library’s seventh book Christmas tree has been set up (video; opens in new tab) in the Kuopio Campus Library and guessing competition is open.

Leave your guess into the box in the library or use the web form. The closest guess will win a prize! If you are the lucky winner, you will need to come to the Kuopio Campus Library to collect it. We will announce the correct number of books in the tree after Epiphany and the form will be open until 8th January 2023.

We would like to thank everyone who took part in setting up the book Christmas tree!

Good luck!

Rule violations at the 24/7 self-service facility of Carelia building in Joensuu

There have been rule violations at the 24/7 self-service facility of Carelia building in autumn semester. With their personal access badges, some users have let other persons to the facility. The facility has also been used for accommodation purposes. The facility is meant for self-study.

When a user gets an access badge to the 24/7 facility, they have agreed to abide the instructions for the facility. As per commitment agreement, the access badge is always personal, and the user is not allowed to give it to others. Holder of the badge cannot let other people to the facility. You can find Safety Instructions for Library 24/7 Access Badge Holder here.

Terms of use for the 24/7 self-service facilities have been made for the common safety. If a user fails to abide them, library has the right, by its own discretion, to temporarily suspend the 24/7 use or terminate a contract effective immediately.

Library hopes that the violations will not happen again. It is the common good that the 24/7 self-service facility of Carelia building can be used safely and in a good spirit also in the future.

We want to introduce: Library Bot Uffe!

We have noticed that we get heaps of messages at surprisingly late hours and on weekends. It’s understandable that there are as many approaches to working hours and methods as there are people so help is needed also after office hours. Allow us to introduce Library Bot Uffe! From now on, you can reach it at the bottom of library’s website around the clock. Please remember that Uffe is still a rookie when it comes to library know-how, but it can already help you with the most common questions that we encounter at the library.

Using Library Bot Uffe is simple: just click the options that the bot provides to find the information you need. However, occasionally it’s necessary to reach a librarian. If Uffe doesn’t know the answer to your question, we still offer the possibility to live chat with a librarian from 9-15 on weekdays. It’s always possible to leave a message through Uffe, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

We warmly encourage you to test Uffe and give us feedback. This will help us to make the library bot more useful for you!

The library is invoicing borrowing fees at the end of October

We are invoicing unpaid borrowing service fees at the end of October. By paying all the unpaid fees before that, you can avoid the invoicing. Web payment in UEF Primo is a quick and easy way to pay the overdue and reservation fees online. It is possible if the amount of fees is at least three euros. You can also pay the fees at the Joensuu and Kuopio campus libraries’ customer service with a payment card. Payment is not possible in the KUH Medical Library, because there is no cash service.
