Erasmus+ traineeship

Students can apply for an Erasmus+ traineeship grant to complete a voluntary or mandatory traineeship as part of their studies. Erasmus+ traineeship opportunities are also open to recent graduates. The traineeship must be approved by the academic department/school at UEF Finland before submitting an application in the online application system SoleMOVE. Erasmus+ traineeship need to be included in the student’s degree at University of Eastern Finland (excluding traineeship for recent graduates). Erasmus+ traineeships can take place in companies as well as private and public organisations, but not in EU organisations or organisations that manage EU programmes. Additional information on the Erasmus+ Programme is available at UEF International Mobility Services and the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI).

NB! For more information about traineeship grants to regions outside of Europe and the Erasmus+ programme, please contact departmental traineeship contact person(s).

For whom: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral level students of all fields.

When: From the first year of studies onwards.

Where: Students should arrange the traineeship directly with the organisation, which must be established (i.e. located) in a country participating in the Erasmus+ programme: EU Member States (not Finland) as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Northern Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey. Students can go for traineeship to United Kingdom but the traineeship should end by 31th May 2023 and students must acquire a residence permit.

Duration: 2 to 12 months.

Application period: Applications will be accepted for as long as traineeship grants are available. Students can apply for a traineeship grant after having confirmed traineeship abroad and approved by the academic department/school at UEF. The application should be submitted in good time (minimum one month) before the start of the traineeship. Application must be submitted in the online application system SoleMOVE. For more information and instructions, please see the page Applying and practical arrangements.

Funding: The grant is EUR 640/690 per month during academic year 2022-2023. To United Kingdom, the grant is EUR 620 per month until 31th May 2023. The grant will be awarded for a maximum period of 4 months, but traineeship can last longer, maximum 12 months. Erasmus+ grant cannot be awarded if the traineeship period is shorter than two months. Traineeship should have been completed until 31 July 2024 (training in United Kingdom must be completed until 31th May 2023). The precise amount of the grant is determined by the duration of the traineeship and by the host country. Erasmus+ traineeship grants are not paid for traineeships those are conducted remotely or virtually.

Students who have fewer opportunities on participating in the exchange (e.g. students with family, family carers, disabled students, migrant background) or who have special needs due to physical or mental health can apply for additional support for the exchange. More detailed information on additional support can be found from “Funding your studies abroad“. In Erasmus+ programme student can also apply for green travel support, if most of the travelled journeys to host country and back home or at least one direction of journey is travelled with low emissions (bus, train, carpooling).

Traineeship for recent graduates: Recent graduates can participate in Erasmus+ traineeship if he/she has been selected for traineeship before graduation and if the traineeship starts and ends within one year of the student’s graduation. Traineeship for recent graduate is only possible if the student still has enough exchange months at his/her disposal. Student must apply for a traineeship grant in SoleMOVE system at least one month before graduating. The traineeship of a recent graduate does not need to be included in the student’s degree at University of Eastern Finland.

Please note: An Erasmus+ traineeship agreement (Learning Agreement for Traineeships) must be signed before the start of the traineeship. The training position must be full-time (min 30 hours per week). The Erasmus+ traineeship grant is the primary form of support used for traineeships in Europe. An online language test in English or in the language of the host country is mandatory before the traineeship.

NB! You cannot get two mobility grants from International Mobility Services or Student and Learning Services for the same period. For example, if you are granted a mobility scholarship for your exchange period from International Mobility Services, you cannot get an Erasmus+ traineeship grant for the same period. However, it is allowed to accept scholarships from other organizations such as foundations for the same mobility period.

Please contact UEF International Mobility Services, if you have any questions related to Erasmus+ traineeship.
