Moodle will be unavailable from 27 to 28 July 2026

Moodle will be unavailable from 27 to 28 July 2026, during which time courses will be transferred from eLearn Moodle to the new UEF Moodle platform.

During the break, both eLearn Moodle and the new UEF Moodle platform will be unavailable. After the break, operations will resume as normal in the new UEF Moodle environment, to which all eLearn Moodle content has been copied. Students will be automatically redirected from the old Moodle login page to the new login page.

You can find more information and answers to common questions on the UEF Moodle – Questions and Answers -page on the Intranet.

The Moodle provider for the University of Eastern Finland is changing – new Moodle to be launched in autumn 2026

The provider of the Moodle learning environment (elearn.uef.fi) at the University of Eastern Finland will change. The aim is to improve the reliability and usability, as well as to increase its potential for use.

The new UEF Moodle is aimed to be launched in August 2026. The change will be made as smooth as possible for students. Logging in to Moodle will be the same as before. The login page address will change, but the old page will redirect to the new login page.

Courses can be studied as normal, except for a few days of downtime in July–August. The exact timing of the downtime will be announced later. The sub-environments make it possible to consider the needs of different user groups, such as compiling UEF’s open learning materials, continuing education, and staff training into their own environments.

All previous course completions and assessments will be automatically transferred to the new Moodle, no action is required from students.

The new Moodle consists of four sub-environments:

  • UEF Moodle – degree programs, including open university courses.
  • Name to be announced – open learning materials and MOOC courses.
  • Name to be announced – continuing education courses offered by the Center for Continuing Education.
  • UEF Staff – staff training.

UEF Moodle is the main learning environment, and open learning materials, continuing education courses, and staff training will be available in their own sub-environments.

The new Moodle will be built with a user-centric approach. Teachers and students are invited to participate in workshops and surveys related to the design of the new Moodle. Follow the updates on Viva Engage.

More information about the new Moodle can be found on the Questions and Answers page, where we will compile up-to-date information about the new Moodle environment and the progression of the project.
