A
Absent student – If you are registered as absent, you cannot complete any studies, and you are not entitled to student discounts or financial aid. There are two types of absence: regular absence and statutory absence. If your absence is statutory, it does not count towards your normative duration of studies. As an absent student, your UEF user account only gives you access to UEF email and Peppi.
Abstract a brief summary at the beginning of a research article.
Academic affairs specialist is a department/institute staff member whose primary role is study guidance, although their duties can range from administrative tasks to teaching. See also: amanuensis
Academic quarter is the salvation of late risers. Lectures and lessons at the university start 15 minutes after the full hour, unless otherwise specified. E.g. a 10–12 lecture starts at 10.15. If the lecture or lesson was specified to start at 10.00, it will start at ten o’clock. Exams always start on the full hour.
Academic subject is a unit that provides teaching based on research in a specific field. Studies within a subject are divided into three stages: basic, intermediate and advanced studies. Your major subject is the subject you have been admitted to study for your degree – you complete basic, intermediate, and advanced studies in your major. Any other subjects you study are your minor subjects.
Academic year always begins on 1 August and ends on 31 July and consists of the autumn semester and spring semester. See more details under: Semesters
Accessibility means promoting equality. It means that a service is easy to approach for everyone. In an online environment, this means in practice that a web service is as easy as possible for everyone to use.
Advanced studies are studies that can be started after completing the basic and intermediate studies. Advanced studies were previously called laudatur studies.
Alumnus (plural: alumni) is a person who has graduated from university. Through UEF’s alumni activities, alumni can stay connected to their alma mater, keep up to date with university news, network, and contribute to the university’s development.
Alumni study right is a non-degree study right. After graduating, you can use your alumni study right to supplement your studies. You can activate it once your graduation is recorded in the student and study register Peppi. For more information about this study right, contact Student and Learning Services.
Amanuensis refers to one of two things, depending on the context:
- An amanuensis is a faculty employee who primarily works as a study counsellor, but whose duties may also include administrative and IT tasks and, in some cases, teaching. The job title of many amanuenses has since been changed to academic affairs specialist.
- An amanuensis can also be a medical student who interns at a hospital as part of the mandatory training included in a Licentiate of Medicine degree and/or during clinical studies. The amanuensis is simultaneously a trainee, a hospital employee and a student receiving practical instruction and training in the application of theoretical medical knowledge. The goal is that during the amanuensis period, students expand their knowledge of the practical side of the medical profession.

Annual registration is mandatory for all the degree students: bachelor’s, master’s, licentiate and doctoral students (i.e. doctoral researchers) are obligated to register for each academic year in advance as being either present or absent.
Anniversary party is a formal evening celebration held to mark the anniversary of a student association or the Student Union, for example. A number of student associations hold a larger anniversary party every five years.
Appro refers to approbatur, the old name for basic studies of around 15 credits in scope. Appro also refers to a “pub crawl” at the beginning of the academic year
Article or scientific article is a written and published report of research findings. Articles written by UEF’s teaching and research staff are often published in international or Finnish peer-reviewed journals. University teaching is based on the latest research in the field, published as scientific articles.

Bachelor’s degree see: Lower university degree
Bachelor’s thesis is the first university thesis completed by students. A maturity test on the thesis is also required for a bachelor’s degree.
Basic studies s a study module of approximately 25 credits that introduces you to the fundamentals of your subject. Basic studies are followed by intermediate studies and advanced studies.
Blended learning combines different forms of teaching and learning: independent study and group work, face-to-face teaching and online teaching. Methods may include learning assignments, exercises, lectures, small group work, and guidance sessions.
Boilersuit or student overalls are a garment worn mainly at student events. They are typically worn by university and university of applied sciences students. Students collect fabric patches on their overalls as mementos from various student events and from other students they have met and exchanged patches with. The colour of the overalls and the logo of the institution or student union on the back indicate the wearer’s university and degree programme.
Book exam is an examination where you are tested on the literature included in the course. You study either the pre-assigned reading list or literature agreed upon separately with the examiner.
C
Campus means the university area. The University of Eastern Finland has two campuses located in Joensuu and Kuopio.
Centre for Continuous Learning offers university studies for everyone. See: Open university
Competence demonstration or skills demonstration is part of the recognition of competences. It refers to demonstrating your skills and knowledge in a way that allows them to be assessed.
Course is the basic unit of studies that covers one subject matter or theme. Courses may be divided further into smaller partial study attainments that together form the course. The scope of each course is defined in credit points.
Course books are the required literature for each course. The university’s libraries have a dedicated course book collection, which contains at least one copy of every course book. Course books may be available for loan or as reading room copies. Some course books are also available as e-books.
Credit point (cp) is the unit used to measure the scope of courses. Courses are assigned credits based on the workload they require. The average workload of 1,600 hours needed to complete one academic year of studies corresponds to 60 credits. One credit corresponds to 27 hours of work. The workload includes not only lectures, exercises, and other teaching, but also your independent study. At UEF, credits are determined according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS): one UEF credit equals one ECTS credit.
Cross-institutional studies are a form of teaching collaboration between higher education institutions. Through cross-institutional studies, you complete courses at another higher education institution using the study right from your home institution.
Curriculum describes the purpose of the degree programme, its academic and professional objectives, the degree structure including study modules and their scope, course descriptions, and the plan for organising student guidance and Personal Study Plan (PSP) counselling. Course descriptions outline the learning objectives, content, modes of delivery and completion, and assessment of student performance. Curricula are approved by the Faculty Council and published as study guides in the student register Peppi.
Custos is the representative of the university who presides over the doctoral defence. The custos chairs the event and ensures that it proceeds according to the regulations. The custos is usually the thesis supervisor, a professor or a docent.
D
Dean leads the faculty and chairs the Faculty Council. The dean and vice deans are elected from among the professors on the Faculty Council. The dean also signs decisions related to the faculty’s student admissions and degree certificates.
Degree certificate is an official document confirming a completed degree. UEF issues
digital degree certificates. If you wish, you can also receive a paper copy of your digital
degree certificate.
Degree programme is a multidisciplinary body of studies with academic and often also professional objectives. A degree programme does not necessarily have defined major and minor subjects.
Degree structure is the detailed structure of each degree, as confirmed by the faculty and based on requirements laid down in the Government Decree on University Degrees.
Degree studies refer to bachelor’s, master’s, licentiate or doctoral studies that lead to a degree.
Demonstration or Demo is a practical demonstration or illustrative exercise linked to a lecture or assignment. Demos are a more hands-on form of studying than lectures, often more practical and concrete.
Department is the smallest unit in which teaching and research is organised. A department may have one or more academic subjects. May also be called an institute (especially in the Faculty of Health Sciences).
Diploma Supplement (DS) is an English-language supplement to your degree certificate, intended for international use. It provides additional information about your degree, the institution, and the education system of the country where the degree was awarded.
Digistartti introduces you to UEF’s digital study environments before your studies begin.
Digital Services is an expert unit within UEF’s university services, providing IT and educational technology services. Digital Services handles questions related to user accounts and access rights, among other things.
Distance exams usually refer to supervised exams booked by the student themselves and held off-campus.
Docent is a person with distinguished research merits who has the right to teach in their field. A docent may also participate in research.
Doctoral defence is a public event in which the person pursuing the doctoral degree publicly defends their dissertation.
Doctoral degree is the highest degree you can complete at a university. To earn the degree, you must complete doctoral studies (also called: scientific postgraduate studies) and write a doctoral dissertation.
Doctoral dissertation is a scholarly work completed as part of a doctoral degree, which the author defends in a public defence. A doctoral dissertation can be a monograph or consist of several articles or publications.
Doctoral studies (also called: scientific postgraduate studies) are studies taken after completing a higher university degree, usually a master’s degree. At the University of Eastern Finland, doctoral programmes are responsible for providing doctoral education. A doctoral researcher pursues a doctoral or licentiate degree.
E
E-book is a book that is available in an electronic format.
Education Regulations apply to the university’s operations. Together with legislation, the Education Regulations govern matters such as the organisation of teaching and examinations, the assessment of academic achievements and theses, and the procedures for dealing with cases of academic misconduct or harassment.
Electronic exam is an examination that can be taken by the student any time they want, using the electronic EXAM system (see also: EXAM).
Emeritus (male) or emerita (female) refers to a retired person who has had a long and distinguished career, typically a professor or other senior expert.
Essay is a short written assignment in which you explore a specific topic from different perspectives, drawing on relevant literature. An essay may be one of the options for completing a course.
EXAM is a digital examination system that allows you to take exams at a time that suits you, within a period set by the teacher, in a designated EXAM room. You can also take an exam at another higher education institution’s EXAM room through a cross-institutional exam visit.
Examination is a formal test that you take to show your knowledge or ability in a particular subject, or to obtain a qualification.
Excursion is a study trip or company visit that is part of a course. Student associations also organise excursions as part of their activities.
Extension to complete your studies may be awarded if your study time is not sufficient to complete your degree.
F
Faculty is the university’s administrative unit led by a dean; inside a faculty there are departments, schools/institutes and academic subjects. Faculty is also used when referring to academic staff members i.e. professors and university lecturers/senior lecturers. We have four faculties: Philosophical Faculty, Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology, Faculty of Health Sciences, and Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies.
Faculty Council is the highest decision-making body within the faculty. The Faculty Council also includes student members.
Flexible study right studies (JOO studies): undergraduate and postgraduate students of all the Finnish universities have had the opportunity to include in their degree minor subject studies from the offering of other Finnish universities regardless of the university in which they have the right to complete their degree. However, Finnish universities jointly decided to withdraw from the flexible study right agreement as of 1 January 2026. (See: cross-institutional studies)
Flipped learning means changing the teaching so that subjects are studied independently before the lecture/exercises and focus on applying and analysing what you have learned during the lecture.
Forms is a Microsoft 365 tool for creating web surveys and polls.
Freshman (in Finnish: fuksi) is a first-year university student who is getting to know university life and the student community.
FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service) is responsible for university student healthcare. FSHS services range from primary healthcare to specialist medical care and dental care.

General examination is an exam where you are tested on pre-announced literature and/or lecture material..

HOPS is PSP in Finnish. A Personal Study Plan (PSP) is your plan for what courses you will complete, how, when and in what order. You can get help with preparing your PSP from a designated contact person in your subject, such as a PSP counsellor, teacher tutor, academic affairs specialist or amanuensis. You prepare your PSP in the first year of study and update it as your studies progress.
I
Inclusion is a form of recognition of prior learning (RPL). It means that a course or study module completed elsewhere is accepted into your degree as it is.
Individual study arrangements refer to measures previously known as special arrangements. Students who have an impediment or a disability can request individual arrangements.
Information security means protecting the availability, integrity and confidentiality of information.
Info screens are the hub for the latest news on campus. You can read the latest news from the university on an info screen, read brochures published by the university, and more.
Intermediate studies are a study module of roughly 35 credits, to be started after completing the basic studies of the bachelor’s degree.

ISYY is the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland. All students completing an undergraduate or graduate degree at UEF are automatically members. For doctoral researchers, membership is voluntary. ISYY decides separately whether other student groups can become members.

Kamu is a digital working environment for students, i.e. where you are right now.
Karonkka a traditional post-doctoral party to honour the opponent after the defence of a dissertation.

Language centre is is responsible for the language and communication studies included in UEF degrees. In addition to degree-related courses, the Language Centre offers elective courses open to undergraduate and graduate students, doctoral researchers, international exchange students, university staff and external participants.
Laudatur may refer to advanced studies or the highest grade given for a thesis.
Lecture is an oral presentation given for the purpose of teaching.
Lecturer is a common title for teachers at the university. In most cases, lecturers are required to hold a doctoral degree. See also: University lecturer
Licentiate degree is a scientific postgraduate degree that you can complete after a higher university degree. It is narrower in scope than a doctoral degree. At UEF, doctoral programmes are responsible for doctoral education. Please note: in the fields of medicine and dentistry the licentiate degree is a higher university degree.
Licentiate studies are studies taken after completing a Master’s degree. The UEF Researcher Training Services and the associated doctoral programmes are responsible for arranging scientific licentiate studies.
Literature review is a summary of another text without adding anything to it.
Lower university degree – A lower university degree, typically a bachelor’s degree, comprises 180 credits and takes approximately three years to complete. The degree title is Bachelor of the relevant field (e.g. Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science). It is usually the first stage of university studies, after which you complete a higher university degree (typically a master’s degree, 120 credits). At UEF, some study paths lead to a lower university degree without a higher degree – for example, the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and the Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education.

Major subject Studying at the university is based on a major subject or study programme. Major subject means the academic subject in which the student has been granted the right to pursue a degree. Major subject studies comprise basic, intermediate and advanced studies in which the focus is on the content, key concepts, theories and research methods of the discipline or academic subject.
Master’s degree comprises 120 credits (2 years). A bachelor’s degree or other comparable studies must be completed before applying to a master’s programme. In the degree programmes in medicine and dentistry, the higher university degree is a licentiate degree (150 ECTS credits, 2.5 years).
Master’s thesis (in Finnish gradu or pro gradu) is an academic paper written at the end stage of advanced studies with the aim of enhancing student academic research skills.
Maturity test is written in connection with your bachelor’s thesis or master’s thesis. The purpose of the maturity test is to demonstrate your familiarity with the field of your thesis and your proficiency in your mother tongue.
Meal subsidy is part of the student benefits. As a degree student, you are entitled to a meal subsidy, which gives you a discount on meals at several student restaurants. You can use the subsidy at participating campus restaurants.
Mentimeter is a web-based tool used to engage students, support interactive learning and quickly gather feedback or responses during teaching.
Microsoft 365 service offered by the university includes e.g. e-mail, personal storage, co-working spaces, digital notebook and Office tools.
Minor subject In addition to your major subject, the degree structure often includes minor subjects. The type, scope and number of minor subjects vary by degree , so it is a good idea to check any restrictions in the study guide.
Moodle is a browser-based learning platform used on many courses at the university for purposes such as sharing learning materials and submitting assignments.

Oili is the registration service where you complete your annual registration during the registration period each year. You log in to Oili with your UEF user account.
OneDrive is a personal file storage space in Microsoft 365.
OneNote is a Microsoft 365 digital notebook for making and sharing notes and minutes.
One study place per academic term means that you may accept only one study place leading to a higher education degree in Finland during one academic term,
Open University offers university-level studies to everyone. You cannot complete a degree through the Open University, but Open University studies can serve as a pathway to degree studies. At UEF, Open University education is provided by the Centre for Continuous Learning.
Oppari is an IT support service and self-study space for students.
Opponent is a person who takes an opposite position in a debate. At a doctoral defence, an opponent is the examiner who presents counter-arguments.
Orientation During orientation, new students begin their studies by exploring online materials and taking part in the orientation day programme. Orientation provides you with essential information about starting your studies. During orientation, you will go through the practicalities of university studies and your subject, and get to know your fellow students with the help of peer tutors.
P
Peppi is UEF’s student register where you manage the most essential aspects of your studies. In Peppi, you can plan and track your studies, register for courses and examinations, and download a digitally verified study certificate or transcript of academic records. Peppi is one of the most important tools you will use throughout your studies.
Personal study plan (PSP) is your plan for what courses you will complete, how, when and in what order. You can get help with preparing your PSP from a designated contact person in your subject, such as a PSP counsellor, teacher tutor, academic affairs specialist or amanuensis. You prepare your PSP in the first year of study and update it as your studies progress.
Plagiarism is presenting or using another person’s text, images or other work without permission or proper source references. Plagiarism can be intentional or unintentional, but it always constitutes a violation of good scientific practice and is prohibited in your studies.
Plagiarism detection tool Turnitin is used to check the originality of theses and other written assignments. The system identifies parts of a text that have been used in another text. Turnitin is used as a teaching and supervision tool for academic writing. In addition, the originality of every thesis is checked before grading.
Post-doctoral party (in Finnish: karonkka) is a celebratory dinner held on the evening after the doctoral defence. It is hosted by the newly defended doctoral candidate to thank the opponent, the custos and others who contributed to the dissertation process. In addition to members of the academic community, friends and family are typically also invited.
Postgraduate studies are studies taken after completing a Master’s degree. Postgraduate degrees include licentiate degree and doctoral degree and at the University of Eastern Finland doctoral school and the associated doctoral programmes are responsible for arranging the studies.
Present student is a degree student who has paid the Student Union membership fee. As a present student, you can complete courses, receive financial aid and access student discounts.
Primo or UEF-Primo is the UEF Library’s search service for printed and electronic resources. In Primo, you can renew loans, make reservations and save favourites.
Printing balance is the amount of printing available to you. You can top up your balance at Oppari if needed.
Professor is a holder of a doctoral degree who conducts research, supervises research within their subject and provides teaching in their area of expertise. A professor typically serves as the head of their subject.
Proseminar is an intermediate studies course for familiarising students with academic research. The proseminar course includes writing a short study.
PSP counsellor is a university staff member (usually an academic affairs specialist, amanuensis or teacher tutor) who will help you in planning your studies and making your personal study plan.
R
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is part of the recognition of competences. It refers to the acceptance of your completed studies, practical training, work experience or other competences as part of the degree, study module or course you are completing. See also inclusion.
Registration or annual registration means that you are required to register at the university each academic year as either present or absent. Registration is done per study right — if you have more than one study right, you must register for each one separately. You can register with a different status for each study right, for example as present for one and absent for another. See also: Student Union membership fee.
Reflection is one of the most important skills for a university student. It involves critically examining what you have learned from different perspectives. You are also encouraged to reflect on your professional competence and skills throughout your studies.
Remote exam is typically a supervised examination that you book yourself and take off campus or at another educational institution.
Representative Council is the highest decision-making body of the Student Union. The representatives are elected every two years. All student union members have the right to vote in the council election.

Scientific paper All teaching at the university is based on scientific research. Up-to-date research data is obtained from Finnish and international scientific papers, among other sources. The university’s teaching and research staff are also involved in authoring scientific papers.
Semesters The university’s academic year is divided into the autumn and spring semesters. Teaching is organised into four periods per academic year.
Sharepoint is a Microsoft 365 Copilot workspace where you can share and collaborate on content, files and news. Study communities are an example of SharePoint communities.
Sitsit is a joyous & relaxed dinner party that includes eating, drinking and singing.

Student association is a student organisation for students of a specific subject. It brings students of the same subject together, helps you get to know your fellow students, and advocates for the interests of students in that subject.
Student card is one of the most important items for a university student. With your student card, you can verify your identity, get student-priced lunches and much more. UEF students can also use the digital Frank and Slice student cards as well as the Tuudo student ID.
Student union membership fee is mandatory for all undergraduate students who have registered as present at the university. The student union membership entitles you to all the ISYY services and a number of benefits. The membership fee is determined annually by the Student Union.
Study certificate or Student certificate is an official document that you can use to prove that you are a university student as well as to prove your registration status – whether you are registered as present or absent. You may download a digitally signed study certificate in Peppi.
Study community is a community formed for students of a certain discipline to bring relevant information available in one place. Study communities are located in the M365 Sharepoint environment and require login.
Study coordinator (usually an academic affairs specialist or amanuensis) is a university staff member who helps new students in planning their studies, for example.
Study guide is a faculty-specific or degree-specific catalogue that contains the degree structures and information on the courses. Study guides are part of Peppi.
Studyinfo.fi (in Finnish: Opintopolku.fi) is a website maintained by the Finnish National Agency for Education where Finnish education providers and higher education institutions publish information about their current study programmes. On the site, you can explore and apply for study programmes. By logging in to My Studyinfo, you can view all your study records, completed courses and degrees.
Study module consists of several study units that are at a similar level of difficulty and form a specific entity, such as the basic studies in a particular discipline. Study modules include basic studies, intermediate studies and advanced studies. Subjects in which you have completed at least 15 ECTS credits (in some degree programmes, 20 ECTS credits) are also recorded on your degree certificate, even if the courses do not form a complete study module.
Study programme is a multidisciplinary is a curriculum for which scientific (and also very often professional) objectives have been set. A study programme does not necessarily comprise major and minor subjects.
Study right combination refers to the combination of a lower and higher university degree, typically a bachelor’s and master’s degree pair.
Study right number is a unique identifier for your study right. You have a separate study right number for your lower university degree (usually bachelor’s) and your higher university degree (usually master’s).

Study voucher allows young people who have completed an upper secondary qualification after 1 December 2025 and who did not receive a place in higher education admissions to study up to 30 ECTS credits free of charge at the Open University.
Study week is an outdated way to define the scope of a course, in which one study week amounted to 40 hours of work. The study week has been replaced by (ECTS) credit points.
Student association is a student organisation for students of a specific subject. It brings students of the same subject together, helps you get to know your fellow students, and advocates for the interests of students in that subject. The subject associations in Joensuu and Kuopio are listed on the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) website.
Studification is part of the recognition of competences acquired outside the university. It is an agreement that the skills and knowledge you will gain outside the university through means other than studying will be documented, identified and recognised as part of your degree.
Study guide is a faculty- or degree-specific publication that contains degree structures and information on available courses. Study guides can be found in Peppi.
Subject or academic subject is an academic unit that provides teaching based on research in a specific field. Studies within a subject are organised into three levels: basic studies, intermediate studies and advanced studies. Your major subject is the subject in which you have been admitted to complete your degree, and you complete basic, intermediate and advanced studies in it. Any other subjects you study are your minor subjects.
Subject combinations The degree studied comprises usually a major subject and one or more minor subjects, which together form the subject combination for the degree.
Summer School is a two-week event held in August on the Joensuu campus. It consists of several courses, usually worth 5 ECTS credits, along with a social programme. Summer School attracts students from around the world and is free of charge for UEF degree students.
Syllabus is a teaching programme confirmed annually by each faculty that lists the courses and teaching offered in each subject during the academic year. Syllabi are published in the study guides in Peppi.
Sway is a tool in Microsoft 365 to create, publish and share presentations.
Sykettä is a sports service for students and staff at the University of Eastern Finland and the Karelia and Savonia universities of applied sciences offering affordable and varied sport services. Users of the service can try out a wide variety of different forms of exercise in the campus cities, from zumba to futsal.

Teacher qualifications determine the degree and studies required to work as a teacher in Finland.
Teams is a Microsoft 365 Copilot collaboration tool that brings together M365 Copilot services for team use.
Term sticker shows the validity period of your plastic student card. You can get the sticker from the ISYY office once you have paid the Student Union membership fee. The sticker entitles you to benefits such as discounted student lunches, student-priced train tickets and other student discounts. If you have a digital student card, you do not need a sticker.
Thesis is an academic paper and a requirement for all university degrees. The different thesis types are bachelor’s thesis, master’s thesis, licentiate thesis, and doctoral dissertation.
ThingLink allows you to create interactive learning materials from images, videos, 360° media and 3D models. You log in to ThingLink using the Microsoft button.
Turnitin is the plagiarism detection tool used at the university (see also: Plagiarism detection tool)
Tutor or student tutor (also called: peer tutor) is a senior student in your field of study who helps you with practical matters at the start of your studies. Tutors introduce new students to university practices, student services and the campus environment, as well as the local area. They can also share practical tips on studying and student life in general. Tutors also serve as small group leaders.
Tuudo is a mobile app that supports your studies. It brings together the most commonly needed study services in one easy-to-carry app.
Transcript of academic records contains all the courses you have completed, including grades and ECTS credits. A transcript of academic records may also be referred to as a study register extract.
Transfer application procedure (in Finnish only) allows students to switch major subjects or study programmes. Transfering is possible at Bachelor studies only.
Two-cycle degree means that you first complete a lower university degree (bachelor’s degree) and then a higher university degree (master’s degree).

UEF Intra is UEF’s digital workspace. It includes an internal news centre and a databank called Services, where you can find instructions on a wide range of topics (requires UEF login).
UEF user account is needed to log in to the university’s online services. Without a user account, studying is practically impossible.
Undergraduate and graduate degrees refer to a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree. A student completing an undergraduate or graduate degree is called a degree student, as distinct from a doctoral researcher who is completing a doctoral or licentiate degree. There are set normative durations within which you are expected to complete your degree.
University lecturer is a common teaching position at the university. The position typically requires a doctoral degree.

Viva Engage is the main internal communication channel for students and staff. It has ready-made groups that you can join.

WebOodi or Oodi was the online student register before Peppi. In 2022, it was replaced by student and study register Peppi.
Webropol is a service for creating online surveys and polls.

Zoola is an analytics tool integrated into eLearn Moodle that allows teachers to monitor student progress on a course. Zoola compiles existing Moodle data into clear summaries but does not collect any new data.
Zoom is used for remote teaching, lectures and group work.
