Warning about fake phone calls from “Microsoft”
During the last few days UEF users have received a large number of fake phone calls from people pretending to be from Microsoft or “Windows support”. The calls typically come from fake Finnish phone numbers and the callers speak poor English.
The callers will usually claim that the user’s computer transmits harmful data communications. After a lengthy conversation and technical jargon the caller wants to control the user’s computer remotely.
If you receive this kind of a phone call, do not allow the caller to access your computer or submit any documents. Hang up the call and if necessary, contact IT Services via email in the addresses at [email protected] or [email protected].
According to the Cybersecurity Center’s report there were more than one million such fake phone calls in September!
