ISYY’s Vappu Celebrations 2019

The highlight of the whole academic year, Vappu (May Day), will bring life to campuses by introducing a variety of events organised by ISYY, student organisations and clubs. Traditionally the students’ Vappu celebrations begin as early as in the middle of April and will culminate in the Vappu eve and its traditions. So put on your overalls and enjoy the spirit of Vappu!

ISYY Association Days on 15.-17.4.2019

Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) organizes Association Days on 15.4.2019 at Kuopio campus and on 16.-17.4.2019 at Joensuu campus. Come and find out what ISYY and associations close to it have to offer. It’s also possible that you’ll find some new activities from Association Days! ISYY Association Days are open for everybody and there’s no entrance fee.

ISYY’s Events Related to the Parliamentary Elections 2019

The 2019 Finnish parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in April. The election day is Sunday the 14th of April and the advance voting takes place between the 3rd and 9th of April. The Student Union (ISYY) is organising parliamentary elections themed events on both of our campuses. During the weeks 13 and 14, ISYY will arrange Election Fairs, Panel Discussions and Election Infos on both campuses.

31 March Concert: The UEF Big Band RytmiHäiriköt feat. Sami Pitkämö – trip to Las Vegas!

Already have a Vegas stamp in your passport?

Yes or no, you now have the chance to experience the shimmering neon lights of Las Vegas in the joint concert of UEF Orchestra RytmiHäiriköt and versatile jazz musician Sami Pitkämö! The trip to Vegas will take you through a musical journey from Frank Sinatra to Elvis with Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Shirley Basset, Engelbert Humperdinck and many other classics as cherries on the top.

Concert will take the audience to the land of Las Vegas with lights, dancers and stylish choices of music. Live projection ensures that the audience feels to be as close to the stage as possible.

Advance ticket sales are open at Carelicum, Levy-Eskot, Kimmon soitin and office of ISYY. Leave the gamblin’ to Vegas, and get your tickets now while there’s still many to spare. You will have won yourself a fine concert to be sure.

This spring’s Smiles and Complaints Week takes place on 11.–15.3.2019. During the Smiles and Complaints Week, you can send feedback via the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland to ISYY, the University, FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service), Amica or any other party involved in students’ life. You can give us feedback by post-it notes at ISYY feedback desks, by speaking your mind at the stands or by filling in our electronic feedback form.

What deserves a smile? What’s wrong? What gives you grey hair? Tell us, and we’ll take your feedback forward! The feedback is given anonymously.

You can give us feedback by filling in the online form (during week 11). The form will open on 11.3.2019 at 9 am and close on Sun 17.3.2019 at 23.59 pm.

Short term loans for UEF laptop computers are now available

There are laptops for short term loans available on both UEF campuses. The devices are meant to be borrowed only for a short term, up to 4 hours at a time.

To borrow a device, register as a user for the Optima vending machine, located in the Joensuu university library and the Kuopio Oppari facilities and in the university library.

ISYY’s Independence Day Torch Parades in Joensuu and Kuopio on 6.12.2018

The traditional Independence Day Torch Parades of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) will be held in Joensuu and Kuopio on 6.12.2018.

The Torch Parades are one of the oldest and most respected traditions of the Student Union and ISYY warmly welcomes all students to participate in them.

Login to Ellibs now via Haka authentication

As of Tuesday 2nd of October, to borrow Ellibs e-books you only need to log in to the service with your personal University of Eastern Finland user account (Haka login). You no longer need a separate Ellibs account. Despite the change, books currently on loan remain so until the end of the loan period. However, old Ellibs accounts, information on previous loans and browsing history are no longer available. In order to read most of the e-books you are still required to install Adobe Digital Editions or Bluefire Reader software on your device.

When you log in to Ellibs for the first time using the Haka authentication, the service will request your permission to store the user ID. After you grant permission, you will be directed to the user authentication site and after that redirected back to Ellibs.

Are you writing a research paper, thesis or dissertation and need to enhance your information retrieval skills? Book an appointment with an information specialist is a free of charge (max 60 minutes) service of individual guidance for UEF students and staff members and KUH staff members. It is also possible to gather a group of students at the same stage of studies and make an appointment for small group guidance. Reflecting on things together with fellow students can be very productive! Fill in the form and suggest a suitable time for the guidance and we will contact you by email. Distance guidance is also available with the Skype for Business software by choosing the ‘Distance guidance online’ option on the form.

Explore the Guidance and open study materials sites on the library’s home page. You will find the library’s discipline-specific databases and information specialists here. Please also note the discipline-specific information retrieval courses arranged by the UEF Library.

At the Joensuu Campus Library, there is a new easily accessible guidance space called Neuvola. You can just stop by at the Joensuu Campus Library and get immediate help to your information retrieval. Group guidance is also available. Neuvola is open from Mon-Fri 11.30am-1.30pm.

Carelia 24/7 contract form has gone online

UEF students and staff members can access the Joensuu Campus Library’s first floor facilities outside regular opening hours.

You can borrow course books using a self-check machine, return books via the returning machine, use computers, work, study, print, copy and scan documents. Apply for the Carelia 24/7 access badge by filling in the contract form online Identity and access rights. After your application has been approved, come to the library to sign the contract and to pay the access badge deposit fee of 40 €.

You will get the access badge from the Facilities Management’s Key Services by providing them the signed contract, receipt of deposit payment and filled in and printed out application for keys and access badges form (pdf).
