Bright light lamps in Studentia, Kuopio campus

Beat the winter blues with the bright light therapy lamps. They are available in Studentia Kappeli (upstairs, the same entrance as for sports hall). Doors are open at 7 am. You can also use the kitchen, for example to make some tea and to warm your breakfast.
The bright light is a 2,500 -10 000 lux. The light resembles sunlight, but it’s UV-free. The bright light lamp is medically certified to treat SAD (seasonal affective disorder). The lamps are offered by the Student Health Servcies (YTHS) and the Student health co-operation team of Kuopio Campus.

Here’s how to get the most out of bright light therapy:

  • Use the bright light lamp in the morning time.
  • Use the bright light lamp about 30-60 minutes each morning. At the first time use the lamp only 10 minutes.
  • Right distance of the lamp to your eyes is about 85–200 centimetres.
  • Don’t stare straight to the light. You can multitask with bright light therapy for example read a book.
  • You get the best effect when you use lamps between 5:30-9:00 a clock.

You can read more about Innolux and Are you suffering from winter depression? Get light therapy at our units (Finnish Student Health Service).

An appeal for ISYY’s members: Vote in the Representative Council elections

The Central Election Committee of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) appeals to every member of ISYY to vote in the Representative Council elections.

By participating in the Representative Council elections, you can best influence the most important matters of your student life and take part in the decision-making. Don’t miss this chance; give your vote to your favorite candidate! You can vote via the electronic ballot box (registering with the UEF username).

Voting matters. The Representative Council members have the power to decide about matters concerning the Student Union and affect on your time as a student in the University as well as the services offered to you by the Student Union. Thus, voting will affect your life directly! If you don’t know yet whom to vote to, get acquainted with candidates with the voting aid.

Voting takes no longer than a minute

All members of the Student Union, who have registered as attending students at the University of Eastern Finland before the 22nd of October 2019, are eligible voters. All eligible voters have received a link by email via which the voting happens. Each person can vote only once.

You can vote during the preliminary voting days or in the actual voting day:
Advance voting: 29.10.–1.11. every day at 9am – 00 (midnight)
The actual voting day: 6.11. at 9am – 6pm

The Representative Council makes significant decisions concerning your life as a student

The Representative Council of the Student Union consists of 39 Representative Council members, “edators”, elected through elections. The Representative Council makes significant decisions concerning all students, for example the Student Union budget, membership fee, action plan, rules, alignments, and so on. The action plan and the alignments for example define, how the Student Union will operate during the present year and what matters will especially be enhanced – for example how the student housing should be developed?

Put simply, the Student Union could be seen as a nation where students are its citizens. The citizens=students elect the Parliament=Representative Council, who then elect the Committees and the Government=Executive Board. And that’s all there is to it!

In the Representative Council elections, even a one vote can make a difference and you are the one who decides who to vote for!
