Bread giveaway at Studentia on Tuesdays and Fridays

Virvatuli ry, an association for donating discard and extra food, starts giving away free bread in the lobby of Studentia building (address: Yliopistonranta 3, entrance A) on week 11 (of 2019). The bread is leftover bread from shops and bakeries, and students are free to take it for themselves.

The association will deliver the bread to the lobby of the Studentia building, next to tables near the porters’ post weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays until the end of May. The delivery should take place by noon. Please note that the delivery will only take place if there is bread to be delivered. If there is no bread to be given away, no extra notice will be posted. If you’re interested in the free bread, please visit Studentia and check out if there’s bread to go around.

Speak Your Mind – ISYY’s Smiles and Complaints Week on 11.–15. Mar 2019

This spring’s Smiles and Complaints Week takes place on 11.–15.3.2019. During the Smiles and Complaints Week, you can send feedback via the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland to ISYY, the University, FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service), Amica or any other party involved in students’ life. You can give us feedback by post-it notes at ISYY feedback desks, by speaking your mind at the stands or by filling in our electronic feedback form.

What deserves a smile? What’s wrong? What gives you grey hair? Tell us, and we’ll take your feedback forward! The feedback is given anonymously.

You can give us feedback by filling in the online form (during week 11). The form will open on 11.3.2019 at 9 am and close on Sun 17.3.2019 at 23.59 pm.

Welcome to celebrate the 9th Annual Jubilee of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY)! The Annual Jubilee is held on Saturday 16 March 2019 in Sokos Hotel Puijonsarvi in Kuopio.

Programme

The greeting reception starts at 4:30 pm on Saturday 16 March at VB Photographic Centre (Kuninkaankatu 14–16). Please reserve your greeting turn when registering.

After the event, we will proceed to Original Sokos Hotel Puijonsarvi’s banquet room Puikkari (Minna Canthin katu 16), where the Jubilee Dinner starts at 6 pm.

After the festivities proper, we will proceed to the after-party in the restaurant Apteekkari at 11 pm (Vuorikatu 24).

Dinner Cards and the Menu

The price of the dinner card is 80 euros for ISYY members and 100 euros for other guests. You may choose between Menu Canth (includes meat) and Menu Topelius (vegan).

Menu Canth:

  • Salted and sugared salmon, coriander mayonnaise and salmon roe (L,G)
  • Smoked pork neck, bolete and oats risotto and tarragon sauce (L)
  • Blueberry sorbet, meadowsweet-almond cake and cottage cheese mousse (L,G)

Menu Topelius:

  • Roasted beetroot, lemon mayonnaise and hazelnuts
  • Gratin with pulled oats, seasonal green salad
  • Mango-passion sorbet, raspberry sauce

Dress Code

The dress code for the Annual Jubilee is a full evening dress or a dark suit with academic decorations.

Herring Breakfast

On Sunday 17 March we will gather for a Herring Breakfast at 12 o’clock noon at the Tiukanlinna facilities (Yliopistonranta 1 J). The price of the Herring Breakfast is 20 euros.

Transportation to the Herring Breakfast departs in front of Original Sokos Hotel Puijonsarvi at 11:30 am where we will proceed to pick up passengers behind Kuopio City Hall at 11:45 am. Please be on time!

Accommodation and Transportation

Annual Jubilee guests have the option to rent hotel rooms at Original Sokos Hotel Puijonsarvi. Twenty standard rooms have been reserved for the guests.

Prices: 100 €/ single room, 120 €/ double room. Special priced rooms can be reserved with the reservation code BISYY until 28 February 2019.

For the Annual Jubilee, free bus transport is available from Joensuu to Kuopio and back. The bus departs from Joensuu at 2:30 pm in front of the Carelia building and leaves from Kuopio at 1:30 am.

Registration and Payment Instructions

Register for the Annual Jubilee, the Herring Breakfast and the bus transport from Joensuu to Kuopio and back with the registration form. Please register only one person at a time.

Invited guests should confirm their seats by registering no later than 1 March. Registration is binding and we will send a confirmation message to the guests with seats.

There are laptops for short term loans available on both UEF campuses. The devices are meant to be borrowed only for a short term, up to 4 hours at a time.

To borrow a device, register as a user for the Optima vending machine, located in the Joensuu university library and the Kuopio Oppari facilities and in the university library.

The Torch Parades are one of the oldest and most respected traditions of the Student Union and ISYY warmly welcomes all students to participate in them.

Login to Ellibs now via Haka authentication

As of Tuesday 2nd of October, to borrow Ellibs e-books you only need to log in to the service with your personal University of Eastern Finland user account (Haka login). You no longer need a separate Ellibs account. Despite the change, books currently on loan remain so until the end of the loan period. However, old Ellibs accounts, information on previous loans and browsing history are no longer available. In order to read most of the e-books you are still required to install Adobe Digital Editions or Bluefire Reader software on your device.

When you log in to Ellibs for the first time using the Haka authentication, the service will request your permission to store the user ID. After you grant permission, you will be directed to the user authentication site and after that redirected back to Ellibs.

Are you writing a research paper, thesis or dissertation and need to enhance your information retrieval skills? Book an appointment with an information specialist is a free of charge (max 60 minutes) service of individual guidance for UEF students and staff members and KUH staff members. It is also possible to gather a group of students at the same stage of studies and make an appointment for small group guidance. Reflecting on things together with fellow students can be very productive! Fill in the form and suggest a suitable time for the guidance and we will contact you by email. Distance guidance is also available with the Skype for Business software by choosing the ‘Distance guidance online’ option on the form.

Explore the Guidance and open study materials sites on the library’s home page. You will find the library’s discipline-specific databases and information specialists here. Please also note the discipline-specific information retrieval courses arranged by the UEF Library.

At the Joensuu Campus Library, there is a new easily accessible guidance space called Neuvola. You can just stop by at the Joensuu Campus Library and get immediate help to your information retrieval. Group guidance is also available. Neuvola is open from Mon-Fri 11.30am-1.30pm.

Pay parking introduced to the University of Eastern Finland campuses

Pay parking will be introduced to the Joensuu and Kuopio campuses of the University of Eastern Finland as of 1 September 2018. Pay parking will be enforced from September to May on weekdays between 7 am to 4 pm. At other times, parking on the university campuses is free of charge.
