The public hearings of the top candidates applying for the two posts of Vice Rector of the University of Eastern Finland will be organised for the university community on the Kuopio campus on Monday 27 May at 12:00–15:00 (auditorium of the Snellmania building, SN200) and on the Joensuu campus on Tuesday 28 May at 9:00–12:00 (auditorium of the Agora building, AT100).

Please see the bulletin on the selected candidates to continue in the recruitment process for the post of Vice Rector of the University of Eastern Finland.

The UEF Board will select the Vice Rector candidates who will proceed to public hearings and the second interview by 20 May 2024.

The hearings organised by the University Collegiate Body will be chaired by Mikko Laitinen and Tero Karjalainen. Campus events can also be followed via a live stream. Application period for outgoing student exchange in May

The May application period for student exchange in the spring semester 2025 opens on 1 May!

The application period is open 1-15 May and closes on Wednesday 15 May at 3:00 PM (15:00) Finnish time. Programme-specific calls for applications have been posted on Kamu’s Study Abroad section, on the page Calls for applications for student exchange. The calls for applications have more information about available placements and about applying in general.

During the May application period, students may apply for exchange in the spring semester 2025 in the framework of these exchange programmes and networks:

  • Erasmus+
  • Nordlys
  • YUFE (Student Journey exchange or YUFE Minor exchange)
  • Bilateral exchange

Applications are to be submitted in the SoleMOVE system. The application includes the online application form as well as a transcript of records (PDF from Peppi) and a motivation letter as the enclosures. The motivation letter should be written either in English or in the host country’s language, and suitable length for the letter is 1-2 pages (A4).

Instructions for filling out the application form are available in Kamu, on the Study Abroad section’s page SoleMOVE online application system. Please be sure to follow the instructions when filling out the application form!

Havuja Bootcamp is the 1st stage of the Havuja business accelerator program by Business Center North Savo.

Bootcamp is meant for anyone who has an initial business idea and would like to work on it. Participants get to develop their business idea in four intensive 3h workshops with the help of experts from Business Center North Savo. You don’t have to have a clear business idea ready. In the final session all teams get to present their business idea to the Bootcamp jury.

You can participate by yourself or as a team. You get two (2) credits from participating to your elective studies.

Havuja Bootcamp is actualized in English, and therefore, it is open to all exchange and international degree students in our educational institutions. Finnish students are naturally welcome as well.

Bootcamp workshop sessions are held online via Zoom.

Havuja Bootcamp gives you:

  • Tools for developing your initial idea into a feasible business.
  • Skills for pitching your business idea.
  • Contacts that can help you with your business idea further.
  • 2 credits for your elective studies.
  • Access to the entrepreneurial community of Business Center North Savo.
  • Guidance on how to continue your business idea development e.g., in Draft Program and get pre-seed funding of 4000 EUR.

On Tuesday April 30 the Joensuu and Kuopio campus libraries are open 8-13 (customer service 10-13), KUH Medical Library 10-13. On Wednesday May 1 our library offices are closed.

On Wednesday May 8 the Joensuu and Kuopio campus libraries are open 8-13 (customer service 10-13), KUH Medical Library 10-13. On Thursday May 9 our library offices are closed.

The library’s 24/7 self-study facilities are open normally also during the holidays.

The customer service desk in Joensuu is open normally.

Sykettä Joensuu and Sykettä Kuopio are again taking part in Kilometrikisa cycling competition which will be held between 1.5.–30.9.2024.

Kilometrikisa is a light-hearted cycling competition for workplaces, departments, associations, clubs or any other teams. The aim is to encourage bicycle commuting and promote everyday cycling. In Kilometrikisa every team member will record their cycling kilometers and the team with the highest number of kilometers will win.

Sykettä Joensuu and Sykettä Kuopio have their own teams. All UEF, Karelia UAS and Savonia UAS students and staff members are welcome to attend teams!

There will be a maintenance break in the Peppi production environment on 15 April 2024 from 4 to 5 pm due to the installation of a new Peppi version.

The Peppi 4.7 version introduces new progress on, e.g.,:

  • sending automatic email messages to registered students
  • cancelling enrollments for open university studies
  • the course registration page of the PSP
  • the cross institutional studies service
  • the OILI integration

In addition, the new version includes fixes for problems in the Peppi source code. Key changes in operations will be introduced in the Peppi Handbook (requires logging in with a UEF account, opens in a new tab).
