What will change with Peppi?

Student number

In Peppi, a student has a single student profile but might have several study rights. E.g., a student could have a master’s degree study right and a doctoral degree study right or an exchange student’s study right. Each study right has its own study right number. The Peppi study right number is not the same number that was your student number in WebOodi.

PSP, i.e., personal study plan

In Peppi, the PSP is a more central tool than before. A base PSP has been created for you, and you can edit it immediately once Peppi is in use. You can add minor subjects and other optional studies to your PSP but cannot reorganise the PSP or delete studies from it. If you notice that the base PSP attached to your study right is incorrect, contact your amanuensis or PSP instructor.

The PSP contains all of the compulsory studies of your target degree. The studies you have completed have already either been placed into the PSP or have fallen outside of the PSP structure. Your PSP instructor can move the studies from the outside into the PSP structure. It is also possible that some of your studies might have transferred to another one of your study rights. Make sure to check all of your study rights!

Course unit registration

Registering for course units is done through the PSP. The Course Registrations page will automatically show the courses (i.e., course units) for which registrations are open for the study units in your PSP. Through your PSP, you can also search for available teaching for course units that are not in your PSP.

Help, I cannot find all of the studies I have completed in Peppi?

Your study attainments have not disappeared, but they may have been attached to another one of your study rights in the data transfer. Click on your name on the upper corner of the screen to see your other possible study rights. Study attainments that have been attached to the wrong study right can be transferred to another study right (e.g., from an exchange student’s study right to a master’s degree study right). In these situations, please contact your amanuensis or PSP instructor.

Please note that there will be a backlog in saving study attainments once Peppi is in use. Studies completed during the November service break will be saved in Peppi by the end of December. Please wait patiently, it might take until the end of the year for all your study attainments to be saved in Peppi. If necessary, please contact opiskelu@uef.fi.

What on earth, I have too many credits!

In some situations, the credit points of your completed study modules might appear to have doubled. The issue is being corrected along with reorganizing PSPs. You do not need to worry about this, but the issue does need to be rectified. If you are about to graduate, contact your amanuensis or PSP instructor immediately.

Study right duration in Peppi

In some cases, the durations of study rights might differ from the duration shown in WebOodi. This is because Peppi interprets study right durations slightly differently to WebOodi. Do not worry, the deviating data is constantly being corrected. However, if necessary, please contact opiskelu@uef.fi.

Student financial aid and completed degrees

Graduating bachelor’s degree students: You can apply for student financial aid for master’s degree studies in the Kela e-service with a notice of changes to student financial aid even if your bachelor’s degree is not saved in Peppi at the very start of December.

Graduating master’s and doctoral degree students: If you receive student financial aid and complete your master’s degree or doctoral degree, you must notify Kela that you have graduated. The easiest way to do this is in the Kela e-service.

You can find more information on student financial aid in the October Peppi info session slide show (login with UEF account) and Zoom recording (login with UEF account). Apply for changes to your student financial aid in the Kela e-service.

In a hurry?

In December, priority is given to fixing any issues with graduating students’ studies. The focus will be on other students a little later.

Student’s to do list

  • Take your time getting to know Peppi. Many things look different or are located in a different place in Peppi.
  • Check the PSP that has been formed for you and edit it. Some study attainments might not have been affixed correctly in the data transfer. If you are about to graduate and notice that some study attainments have been attached to the wrong study right, contact your amanuensis or PSP instructor. When you start updating your PSP for the first time:
    • Find your latest accepted PSP in WebOodi.
    • Compare the PSP that has been formed for you in Peppi to your latest accepted PSP in WebOodi.
    • If there are minor subjects or optional studies missing from the PSP that has been created for you, you can add them.
    • If you are about to graduate, book a study guidance appointment as soon as possible. Your amanuensis or PSP instructor can reorganize your PSP.
  • Register for course units if your registrations have not transferred from WebOodi or the registrations have been reopened in Peppi.
  • Be patient and wait for study attainments received during the November service break to be saved in the register. The backlogged study attainments will be saved as soon as possible, but not all studies can be saved at the start of December.
  • Remember to mention your study right number when you contact your instructor or the Peppi support.

Keep calm and use Peppi!

Coming soon: Peppi info session and question time for UEF students!

University of Eastern Finland will deploy a new student data system in late 2021. WebOodi will be replaced by a modern data ecosystem called Peppi.

All UEF students are welcome to join a Peppi info session to learn about the Peppi data ecosystem and its deployment at the UEF.

Peppi info session for students in Finnish on Wednesday in Zoom, 13 October 2021 from 3.00 to 4.00 p.m. (15.00-16.00).
Peppi info session for students in English on Friday in Zoom, 15 October 2021 from 3.00 to 4.00 p.m. (15.00-16.00):

The info session will be recorded and distributed afterwards in Peppi-Yammer and in the Peppi Databank.

You can submit questions via Padlet either before and during the info.

Peppi will take you from Oodi to the 2020’s this autumn!

The new student data system Peppi will be deployed at UEF in three stages in October and November 2021 which also means saying goodbye to WebOodi. Peppi is an information system wherein different features are organized into virtual desktops based on user roles. Peppi comprises education planning, facility and resource reservations, and the student and study register.

On the student’s desktop, you can plan your studies, view your timetable, track your progress, schedule appointments, register for studies, procure a certificate of student status and a transcript of records, and view and edit your own contact information. Applying for recognition of prior learning will also be carried out in Peppi in the future.

When will Peppi arrive?

Peppi will be deployed in stages at UEF during the autumn of 2021. Study guides and Lukkarikone will become available in Peppi in the last week of October. In the study guides you can find information on programmes, curricula, study units and course units (i.e., courses). Lukkarikone is a timetable programme for viewing teaching schedules. Anyone can browse the information on teaching and the up-to-date schedules without the need to login with a UEF account.

Using WebOodi ends on 31 October. After this, WebOodi will be available in read-only mode. This means that you can view your own information in WebOodi but will no longer be able to update the data.
The Peppi basic register and student’s desktop OPPI will be in use at the turn of November and December. After the end of November, you can view and plan your studies and update your contact information on the student’s desktop in Peppi. Digitally signed transcripts of records and study certificates will also be available through the Peppi plugin Atomi.

Info sessions, user training and question times!

You can find more information on the deployment and learn how to use Peppi by taking part in the info sessions and user training sessions for students. Welcome!

The Peppi Road Show takes over different campus buildings during the week of the deployment (week 48). Come along and ask about Peppi and try your luck spinning the wheel of Peppi.

Studying, service breaks and exceptions to arrangements

Studying and teaching will continue throughout the autumn, but deploying Peppi and retiring WebOodi will cause service breaks to different functions, e.g., registering for courses, showing up-to-date teaching schedules, saving study attainments in the register and writing degree certificates.

October service break 4.-24.10.2021

Registering for courses and exams is carried out in WebOodi until October 31. The registration data is transferred to Peppi the following week. After the October service break, information on teaching can be viewed in Peppi through Lukkarikone.

Possible changes to teaching schedules might no longer be updated to WebOodi. Students might therefore no longer be able to view up-to-date syllabi in WebOodi or NettiLukari (and not in Peppi yet either). The personnel of your subject will notify you of any possible changes to the syllabus during the service breaks. Possible changes to course units will be updated to Peppi starting 25 October.

November service break1.-28.11.2021

Students’ registration data is transferred to Peppi, and registering through WebOodi is no longer possible. Your subject will instruct you on how to register for teaching or exams during the service break should you need to do so.

Study attainments can no longer be saved in the student data system. The backlogged study attainments can be saved in the register after Peppi is in use at the turn of November and December.

Once WebOodi is in read-only mode, you can view, e.g., your study attainments and PSP.

Planning on graduating in late 2021?

Make sure to check the schedules related to graduating in Kamu. If you wish to receive your degree certificate before the end of 2021, you must submit your Master’s thesis for examination no later than 1 September and Bachelor’s thesis by 10 September. Theses submitted after these dates will also be examined but saving the completed theses in the study register might be delayed.

Apply for a degree by 1 October.

To make sure that you receive your degree certificate before the end of the year, apply for a degree by 1 October.

There is, nevertheless, no need to panic because you can also graduate after the start of October. However, you might not receive your degree certificate until 2022 because study attainments cannot be saved in the register during the service break. The degree certificate is dated to either the date on which the degree certificate application has arrived or the date on which the last study attainment has been evaluated, whichever is later. In short, you can graduate in 2021 even if there is a delay in delivering your degree certificate.

Remember to read the Peppi Handbook (sign with UEF account) and check for current news in Yammer (sign with UEF account)! You can also find information about Peppi in Kamu.

Student’s checklist at the start of the autumn 2021 semester

Peppi will replace WebOodi at the end of November 2021: student, get ready now!

Peppi will replace WebOodi at the end of November 2021: student, get ready now!

The University of Eastern Finland will introduce a new study information system at the end of 2021, when WebOodi will be replaced by a modern Peppi system. Peppi is a data ecosystem that includes the planning of teaching, the reservation of space and other resources and the student and study register, in which the functions are divided into virtual desktops based on different user roles.

The Peppi handbook (opens in a new tab) (requires login) contains information about the Peppi system and its implementation at the University of Eastern Finland. In the handbook, you can read current information about Peppi and browse the instructions by user group (note: to read the Peppi handbook, you need to sign in with your UEF account). Follow Peppi in Yammer (opens in a new tab) (requires login) too!

Prior to the deployment of Peppi in week 48, the student register is out of use for weeks 44-47. WebOodi will continue in reading mode during and after the service break, but no new information can be added there. The updated teaching schedules are already visible during the service break from the Lukkarikone and other teaching information from the Study Guide.

Please note

  • Follow the information in the Peppi Handbook, Yammer, and email, and participate in the Peppi info in weeks 41 and 48!
  • Check your curriculum and the valid curriculum for the academic year 2021–2022. If necessary, contact your PSP instructor, amanuensis or similar body.
  • Update PSP in WebOodi and download it for yourself no later than week 43 – PSP will not be transferred to Peppi as such.
  • If you want, order a transcript and a certificate of study from WebOodi no later than week 43.
  • Check the adequacy of the study grant if you do not achieve your bachelor’s degree within the target time.

Are you planning to graduate in the fall of 2021?

If you want to receive a diploma in 2021, submit your master’s thesis for examination no later than 1st of September 2021, and a bachelor’s degree thesis 10th of September. Request for study module evaluation as soon as possible after completing the study units. Closed study modules will speed up the graduation process.

Theses submitted after these dates are also evaluated but saving the completed theses to the study register may be delayed. Theses will be backdated to the date of grading. Apply for a degree no later than 1st of October. Graduation will also be possible after the beginning of October, but getting the certificate can be delayed until 2022.

Peppi will replace WebOodi at the end of 2021. How to prepare now?

The University of Eastern Finland will deploy a new student data system in late 2021. WebOodi will be replaced by a modern data ecosystem called Peppi. Peppi is an information system wherein different features are organized into virtual desktops based on user roles. Peppi comprises education planning, facility and resource reservations, and the student and study register.

On the student’s desktop, you can plan your studies, view your timetable, track your progress, schedule appointments, register for studies, obtain a certificate of student status and a transcript of records, apply for courses completed at another institution to be registered at UEF (recognition of prior learning), and view and edit your own contact information.

Service break coming in November

The exact schedule for the Peppi deployment will be announced in the spring 2021. Prior to the deployment, there will be a service break of about three weeks during which no study attainments can be saved or changes can be made to the student data system. All students should prepare for the situation and plan their studies carefully ahead of time. All study attainments will be saved into the new system, but the data system change and service break will slow down saving study attainments and writing diplomas in late 2021. It is therefore to be expected that services will be backlogged at the end of the year. You will be able to view your studies during the service break as WebOodi will be available in read only mode. Teaching and studying will continue normally during the service break. During the service break students cannot register for teaching or examinations through WebOodi. Follow your subject’s instructions on how to register for teaching and how any schedule changes in teaching in your subject will be handled after October.

Planning on graduating in late autumn 2021? Anticipate!

Please complete the studies missing from your degree before autumn 2021 and get any remaining studies (including recognition of prior learning) registered during the spring 2021 if possible. Avoid the rush and request for study module evaluation as soon as possible after completing the study units. Closed study modules will speed up the graduation process. Check the instructions in the Study Community of your department or school. Graduating PhDs N.B.: Although the date of the public defence of your dissertation cannot be changed, you can have your other completed credits accepted and registered earlier and, consequently, avoid the backlog of study registration.

Theses for examination in early autumn

If you want to receive a degree certificate in the year 2021, submit your Master’s thesis for examination no later than 1 September and Bachelor’s thesis by 10 September. Theses submitted after these dates will also be examined but saving the completed theses to the study register may be delayed due to the student data system change. Theses will be backdated to the date of grading.

Apply for a degree by 1 October

By applying for a degree by the start of October you can ensure that you will receive your degree certificate before the end of the year. If you graduate after the start of October, delivering your degree certificate might be delayed until 2022. The degree certificate will be dated to either the date of submitting the degree certificate application or the date of the last completed study attainment, whichever is later.

Info sessions, question times and user training

Plenty of help and user support for Peppi users will be made available. Several info sessions and user training session for students will be held during the spring and autumn 2021. Additionally, the first version of the Peppi handbook will be published in the spring 2021. The electronic handbook will contain user group specific instructions for Peppi users. Peppi related news, discussions and events can be found in the Peppi Yammer group. Peppi related questions and ideas can be sent by email to peppituki@uef.fi.

Peppi info sessions and question times for UEF students in March and April

University of Eastern Finland will deploy a new student data system in late 2021. WebOodi will be replaced by a modern data ecosystem called Peppi. The Peppi ecosystem includes a lot of diverse functions and plug-ins that will make every-day working and studying at the UEF easier. In addition to the student data system, Peppi will include functions for educational planning and facility reservation.

Peppi info session in March

All UEF students are welcome to join a Peppi info session to learn about the Peppi data ecosystem and its deployment at the UEF.

The info sessions will be recorded and distributed afterwards in Yammer.

Peppi question times for students

During the question times for students, you can ask questions about Peppi in Finnish or in English, and listen to what other students have on their mind. Before the question times, you can submit questions via the question time Padlet.

The question times will be arranged in the following times:

The questions and answers will be published afterwards in the students’ section in the Peppi Handbook that will be published in April. The publication of the Peppi Handbook will be announced later.

More information about the deployment can be found on the students’ Peppi bulletin in Kamu. Peppi-related news, discussions and events can be found in the Peppi Yammer group and later in the Peppi Handbook. Peppi-related questions and ideas can be sent to the email peppituki@uef.fi.
